also, the submarine operator story is interesting but kind of irrelevant. nukes were almost launched, but it wasn't because MAD had fallen thru, it was because a technological failure was telling soviets that Americans had launched nukes.
point being, MAD has always held true and will likely continue to hold true. I'm mot saying MAD is foolproof, but I am saying it's there and it means that there is a non-zero chance that war between nuclear powers does not end in nuclear war.

My point is that a nuclear power being at war doesn’t automatically mean nukes are dropping in every major city. I agree it’s more likely, but you act like the worlds gonna end the second a Russian plane gets shot down

BUT i'd say there's a very good chance nobody actually uses their nukes because of MAD. I'm certain that Russia does not want to get wiped off the face of the earth. I'm certain they know that launching nukes would mean they get wiped off the face of the earth. Therefore, I'm fairly confident that they wouldn't launch nukes unless absolutely necessary.
am i saying that we shouldn't worry abt nuclear war and that it will never happen? No. It's totally a possibility, and totally important to keep in mind.
That being said, the claim that any conflict between nuclear powers must end in nuclear war is an assumption. Pure conjecture. To act like it's a certainty is silly.
