With that said, I still think the slogan is harmless to say most of the time
I first became aware of it through a demo at my uni led by Ukrainian studehts
I think what people say is in general mostly harmless - regardless of its something docile or even purposefully pointedly offensive. The issue is more when that rhetoric is co-opted collectively by institutions to act on the mirror of public opinion; even individuals who are pro-war/intervention are not inherently dangerous, but when it becomes amplified to the point it begins to eclipse solidarity and becomes an institutional battlecry it can become an issue essentially.

You mentioned liberals before who seem to side with Ukraine in every way possible. And that kinda seems true for the most part. From an ideological standpoint that fits them more too, you're right about that. It may blind them in some ways too
But you also notice that many of the socialists itt seem to have a soft spot for Russia still tho? They might think they are being objective, but if all their posts anti-Ukraine it kinda shows what their real stance is in this conflict. Not saying you do that too, but does it really have to do with the ideological background of the Soviet Union? Like you said, Russia nowadays is a capitalist kleptocracy, where a few own everything, so it doesn't make sense at all

It wouldn't exist however I would understand it. In war, combatants do psyops. It wouldn't shock me
Plus there's also the whole factor that these men are conscripts.

If they were conscripts then this would be even more unnecessary and inhumane. These weren’t volunteers jumping into a war thinking they’re heroes. Do you think conscripts want go to war? Do you think they CHOSE? This will only embellish sentiments in Russians as they’re faced with Ukrainians performing these egregious actions

just being frank, from ukraine's standpoint at war it makes sense to be as inhumane as humanly possible, especially knowing they can't survive forever in a protracted military conflict. the chances they have at being called out for war crimes is minimal to none.
it either forces the other side to up their aggression, thus increasing the probability of forcing allied intervention, or alternatively, knowing that most international parties minus a select few are on their side, they know if the same inhumane conditions are mirrored by the other side they can use that as an excuse to parade to allies to increase sanctions or severity of economic warfare.
