The CIA, the most anticommunist organization on earth, agrees that the USSR is collective leadership and not a dictatorship, as a result of extensive espionage.

Why would you believe Wikipedia over them

I don't care that a CIA staffer from the 50s doesn't understand that even autocrats have a base of power that they are accountable to. And stop it with the wikipedia jabs disrespectful ass

I know there's a misunderstanding in the west and that's why I've watched like a hundred Russian movies was planning on visiting Moscow last year before the war broke out

so you're saying all of the purges of officers in the military and rivals in the party we're just to keep himself alive and not necessarily in power?

Not him but rather the political structure and stability of the political system as a whole. Following the death of Lenin there was a power vacuum that led to somewhat of a struggle between Trotsky, Lenin’s right hand guy, and Stalin, the leader who was elected by the party.

In the face of growing fascism that threatened the very existence of the Soviet people, let alone the Soviet government, there had to be desperate measures undertaken to preserve the political structure of the USSR so that it may weather the inevitable war with the Nazis

Also you definitely deserve any disrespect coming your way if you’ll happily disregard factual evidence that you’re WRONG.

I know living space was always the plan but considering the purge was in 1937 and Barbarossa wasn't till 1941 it definitely feels like there's a little bit of opportunism there for Stalin to get rid of his rivals. And if he kept trying to retire from the party then he probably wouldn't disagree that some other Russian commanders probably could have handled the Nazis just as well if not better than him.

By 1937 there was an anti-communist pact between the axis powers and multiple political agreements between the Germans and Allie’s. It was even policy in Britain to support the Nazis in a hypothetical war with the Soviets. I’d definitely believe it was beyond a sense of self preservation

Because I’d always quote American girl by Estelle while ironically espousing anti American talking points

Using internal documents of an intelligence agency is absolutely a valid source of information

The CIA might be a genocidal organization but they do honest and thorough work

The Molotov Ribbentrop pact was never a statement of alliance but rather a pragmatic agreement that removed each side from the others attention while they inevitably prepared for the other side to violate the pact
