man was an elite mountain climber that the Russians hired to teach them how to traverse crazy central Europe regions. went on an expedition in the far east of Russia with a crew of illustrious climbers from all over the eastern bloc to install a giant bust of Lenin on some remote mountaintop eventually escaped to the west through some treacherous mountain pass with a buddy in the mid 80s. has alot of crazy stories once we've had a few glasses of wine. f***in hates Russians.

theres no imperialism on russias part because this is not 1905 and theres only one world hegemon which is the united states of america. russia is not an empire, its a powerful neighbor but it has little to no soft or hard power or capital to maintain any kind of imperialism among its neighbors, as this conflict clearly demonstrates. the whole thing began quite literally because there were multiple oligarch camps in both countries that got their money from different activities; one managed to exploit their resource base so potently accumulated during the socialist period, the other was always one to benefit from that as well but also looked towards 'foreign' capital thinking itll improve their situation should they open up their country to it

this is a local conflict thats been brewing based on contradictory nationalistic notions of two neighboring countries and their ruling classes being at odds with each other

Why shouldn't independent countries have a right to decide there own future? Unless Russia is willing to give them security and sovereignty guarantees why would it make sense for these countries to not pursue NATO?
