I don't know if I'd really say it's that viable. A lot of the reason world wars happened last century wasn't just because of geopolitics in a vacuum, it was also because geopolitics and diplomatic relations as a whole were heavily uncoordinated and in a only nascently globalized world it was easier for conflict to emerge as a sort of domino effect. Stuff like the League of Nations only emerged post WW1 as an attempt to fix this issue and obviously immediatedly failed because, similar to now, it didn't actually work, but moreso because there was no actual economic incentive to retain normalcy, and everything was purely symbolic (imagine the UN (already symbolic enough as is) f there was no world/global economy yet).
Right now there's no real chances of someone going to war with someone if their relative superpower allies don't because they're all on the same chain of command, it's not like in 1900 where all countries were so strikingly independent (relative to now) that geopolitical stability could be threatened arbitrarily at any given time.Like why would Japan go to war if the US doesn't, Japan relies entirelty on the US, same for SK, and inversely, same for NK to the US because of their protector state obviously being China. You can imagine if China didn't exist the US would afghanistan or iraq NK overnight - this is exactly why I pointed out earlier in the thread the US doing so to these countries was so effective; they virtually had no real protector states and were arbitrary in terms of wider geopolitics (Russia was not going to go to war over Iraq or Libya for example, it posed no material interest to them, even if symbolically allied). The same inversely goes for how the US is looking at stuff like Crimea or similar. Unless it comes from the upper-end of the superpower chain of command, everyone is going to just allow regional conflicts to take their natural turn, because there is no incentive otherwise for third parties to get involved beyond proxies or economics
