Adults ages 35 and older are more likely to view the USSR’s breakup as a bad thing for their country, while those ages 18 to 34– who were either small children or not yet born when the USSR fell – are less likely to see it this way.

I'd say the opinions of people who actually lived through the USSR hold more merit than those who haven't, wouldn't you?

except no the US isn't literally totally controlled by oligarchs. there's 100% an argument to be made that the rich ultimately have the most political influence, but the general population isn't totally and completely disregarded and the most powerful US oligarchs aren't also literally chief government officials as well.

the same cant be said for russia. there, oligarchs literally run almost everything and the general population is actually completely and totally disregarded

They fund the two parties’ national conventions and directly influence their choices in presidential and congressional candidiates. They directly lobby for their campaigns so their legislation can be passed. They own the news stations that vouch for and criticize their candidates. They find the military and police that control both their population and other populations

I’d say it’s worse because it’s legalized, moralized and openly defended by the political body and even normal people of the US as something virtuous instead of being blatant corruption
