Thing is is if Russia just starts indiscriminately bombing they’ll pretty much have to go full scorched Earth, because at that point what exactly are you taking control over?

Gonna rule over rubble? You’re sure as hell aren’t going to have the money and resources available to rebuild, and it’s gonna be kinda hard to spin that back home.

they don't want to rule, they just want a buffer between them and NATO which going scorched earth would achieve effectively

I meant more of an offensive fighting force

But then again I guess their hypothetical re-occupation of the Kurils would constitute defense

They're technically not supposed to be on the offensive but they've bent the rules for "peacekeeping" and "disaster relief efforts" in a few places.

Which I'm w/e with anyway. The Security Treaty is some colonial type s***.

Russia using a thermobaric bomb is nothing “special” we did it regularly in the Middle East

But I think it’ll motivate him to push harder and faster agains t a running clock

their obession with "reuniting" ethnic russians is eerily similar to hitlers justification of austria and czechoslovakia

It’s past the point of no return now for him with the current situation. Best option is they think of SOME way for him to withdraw while still being able to save face somehow. I can’t really think of anything though.

    Is there a TLDR
Why Russia so heavy against NATO?z
Why is Finland potentially joining a tipping point??

    understand dugin, understand putin

putin's actions rn are just following guidelines laid out by aleksandr dugin in his book, foundations of geopolitics. it's basically a step by step guide to returning russia to its major world power status. It's been the s*** in Russia since it came out, and has even (allegedly) been taught as part of training for govt officials.

Two of the first European steps are to invade Ukraine and Finland whenever a good opportunity arises

A few other tactics u might have already seen being put in practice are the promotion of internal divisions in America and the isolation of the UK from Europe. Nobody in the know was surprised by russian bots polarizing the US and pushing for brexit.

Point is, this has been Russia's gameplan for last few decades. Invasion of Ukraine is just one of many steps to becoming a great power again.

Hopefully this helps you understand why Putin is invading Ukraine.

As for why russia cares so much about NATO (allegedly), it's mostly to provide some sort of justification to onlookers. No, NATO was never a serious threat to Russian sovereignty, and Ukraine joining NATO does not significantly change this (despite what Putin and a few ppl in this thread will tell you). Oh and Putin knows this, btw. But "i want more power" is a terrible justification for an invasion, so for now Putin is running with the whole NATO thing.

We have a rlly poor understanding of how this war is going rn because the "official" reports are coming from Ukraine's propaganda arm, and Russian media us equally untrustworthy.

BUT from what we do know, it seems like Russia has already surrounded most major cities, and the Ukrainian govt is starting to look rlly rlly desperate. bro they took prisoners out of jail to fight on their front lines. U don't even need a visa to fight in their foreign legion anymore they'll take fkn anybody

It's highly likely that Russia is doing just fine in Ukraine and will settle for basically a puppet government that can later "choose" to join the russian federation.
