Just heard the family guy/American dad guy is laying low till this is revolved. Do we have a comprehensive list anywhere of all the high profile projects being affected by this?

Are individual studios allowed to give in to the demands, or does it have to be unanimous?

For example, could Universal accept the terms and resume production, while other studios continue to hold out?

They negotiate as one entity despite having different interests. Very cartel-like

It's crazy to me to look at Hollywood finances and think "hmmm, writers being compensated for their work is the problem here". What even is your argument against the union? It's the one thing standing in the way of more exploitation.

  • May 18, 2023

From what I read the main thing writers are fighting for is residuals for their movies when they hit streaming

They get residuals for theater showings and tv syndication but the future is with streaming and they want the deal to be updated with that

Writers being compensated isnt my problem, I agree with most of their demands (although I think some of them are stupid and should replaced by other sensible demands that would actually help more people financially, within and outside of the industry.)

This particular union's s***ty routine operation procedures and policies, as well as those of certain other unions in Hollywood that employ similar ones, are my problem. They're not a typical labor union, and I don't blanket support every union just because they're a union. There's already plenty of exploitation within Hollywood unions already, it's redundant to scaremonger about that increasing if they didn't exist or demonstrate. There should be a total reformation of it and others in the industry, but that will never happen because its such a high profile, high dollar field. Not to mention how America unions in general were surreptitiously corrupted in the 30s and have been a controlled shell of what they should be ever since.

So you don't think unions should exist because they're flawed? You weren't offering a nuanced critique so much as staunch opposition to their existence period. You think their disappearance will benefit workers? None of this tracks. It's the position of an executive, of a producer.

You agreed with Phillips and Sorkin who said unions shouldn't exist. I asked why you presented faults with actual existing unions. I'm confused how abolition fixes any of that.

I said absolutely nothing of the sort.

I agree with their opposition to THIS PARTICULAR union. I think THIS PARTICULAR union's (and certain others in Hollywood) routine policies and procedures are awful and anti-worker. I think THIS PARTICULAR union (and certain others in Hollywood) should have a total REFORMATION to fix their baked-in flaws.

I dont think THIS PARTICULAR union or "all unions" should be abolished or nonexistent whatsoever.

Stop F-reading and we can start having an actual conversation.

"I know you are but what am I"

Get serious, stop performing for others, and stop embarrassing yourself.

Nothing in your reply here was said in my post you quoted. Its not worth trying to talk to you and others who behave like you.
