THEN QUIT MF NOBODY CARES ABOUT REDNECK SUCCESSION
https://twitter.com/thr/status/1671576953156153344I mean I can’t be mad about this, he said he’s tried collaborating with other writers and it doesn’t work and he writes best alone. I wouldn’t want collaborators forced onto me either if I prefer writing solo.
I get we’re fighting for writers to be staffed and paid, but we also can’t force it and compromise other writers writing process.
Read the interview, its fire.
Sheridan is a great writer tbh. I haven’t seen any of his shows, never really appealed to me for some reason but I completely love Sicario, Hell or high water and wind River.
I know I got a few projects in mind that are very specific to the environment I grew up in. I wouldn’t wanna collab on those projects because unless you grew in that same environment you wouldn’t be able to get down the specific dialogue, characteristics, etc. You may have amazing ideas but if it’s not genuine to the specific setting it won’t work.
And to me, reading that article sounds like that’s what Sheridan is striving for, he grew up on the ranch, and is writing very specific to that setting.
Also the whole idea of a writers room is very specific to TV shows, but it shouldn’t be a requirement. You wouldn’t go to Tarantino or PTA and say “hey, from now on you need to hire at least 5 writers to write your movie with you”…they would say Hell No as well. TV shows shouldn’t be treated any different. Yes it’s a great concept and makes sense because so many episodes are involved. But, writers should also be allowed their preference to create the way they wanna create. Isn’t that what we’re fighting for? Staffing, paychecks and creative freedom?
S*** is heating up on the actor side of things

Kinda feels like they’re gonna give in to everyone else and put all the pressure on the writers
Good for everyone else though
They’ll make it work, unlike writers directors and actors have more leverage cause of star power
It’s really pathetic that the late night shows can’t even do once a week without their writers. Very sus.

Not doubting those guys heavily rely on writers but I think it’s also just a solidarity thing

Man, Hell or High water is really good. Props to him if he wrote that

Hollywood shutting down so so soon
Wow
Hollywood shutting down so so soon
Damn
Man, looks like we’re about to see a bunch of directors playing with puppies and eating hot wings for the next few months.
