Idk Biden signed an executive order focused on AI yesterday so that might have some influence on this

Does anyone really give a s*** about the plight of Hollywood ? I haven’t followed film in a minute but all this just seems like a joke of sorts.

This whole ordeal isn’t about the top tier actors. They’re involved sure, but it’s about making sure studios can’t use people’s images in perpetuity without expressed permission and payment for each use. It’s about keeping the lower rung actors out of poverty. It’s about making sure people who choose to do this profession don’t have to starve. It’s about making sure anyone who wants to be a writer or actor has protections when they join the guilds.

This labor movement also shined a light on other labor movements that have been happening across the country such as the United Auto Workers strikes, the nursing strike, etc.

Let me put it this way: if someone asked you to work for one day for $200 and they go and scan you and see you off. Your contract never mentioned that this is what you were going to do. Then two years later you see yourself somewhere that you didn’t give permission to have your likeness in, and you were never paid for the project that you see your image in. Wouldn’t that rub you the wrong way?

I get what you’re saying but “starve” is a bit of an exaggeration. Like most of the entertainment industry it seems isolated to its own self absorbed world. I wouldn’t consider this to be in the same light as the auto workers, nurses, etc strikes. As the world burns Hollywood just seems so minuscule imo

I get that it’s not of the same importance as the other strikes, but I think the visibility of this one brings more visibility to the other issues. That is in part to these workers supporting the workers in the other, more important strikes (at least on my feeds). It’s showing the power of a labor union led by people in the spotlight and that this same thing can be done by anyone else in a union.

Tbh most people care because these protests can halt the movie industry altogether, which in turn will stop the flow of new movies & tv shows.

“Several SAG-AFTRA negotiating committee members have signaled their discontent with the offer on Twitter. Four of them of retweeted a call for high-profile actors to put pressure on studio CEOs to come back with a more favorable deal.“

    It’s over

Welp. Looks like we are about to see some MAJOR delays now for anything that was scheduled to release in 2024-2025
