I know it’s easy to dismiss it as never coming or be cynical about what I’m doing or whatever. But the reality is perfectionism/high expectations of myself and how it will be judged (perfectionism is not a good trait btw) — and basically just being too ambitious with it.

Building it as a major revamp of an existing platform while keeping some level of feature parity/compatibility also introduces a s*** ton of complexity at pretty much every level, especially with user expectations/what people are used to.

The amount of hours I’ve spent just writing notes on trying to square all these circles and just trying to figure out the practical details of how things will work, the complex dynamics they introduce, minimizing initial backlash to some ideas… and how all this can be balanced, the trade offs necessary, and how to implement all of this from the ui/ux through to the code and infrastructure level is ridiculous.

I honestly just need to come to terms w the fact that I have to scale back these ideas significantly and not create high expectations. At least for v1.
People prolly have way lower expectations than what I’ve built up in my mind anyway

Finally got around to getting premium—excited to see what comes next and proud to give a little back after over a decade of great times on here

On the current site side of things, been working on developing new and more comprehensive search recently. Should have initial version live next week after testing and experimenting this week.

What features does premium add

Search is being improved on web this coming week. It’s already been slightly improved recently.

no ads, custom name emojis, ability to change name more often, early access to major feature updates in future. I think that’s it from what I remember

the main draw for ppl is the option to set your name emoji I guess. I’d recommend using ad block either way

but ftr it was just an example of the limitations of pure semantic similarity alone (and also how powerful semantic similarity search is tho lol)

Don't know if this is the right thread but there's an issue.

I've noticed that for some time now embedded tweets don't show up on Firefox (I tried Chrome and they load as intended). I have to click on the view source button and then copy paste the link and open it in a new tab which is annoying.

iirc you have to clear cache or its a tracking issue
