The Departed is not copaganda

Any movie that portrays cops as a necessity to our society is copaganda yes.

Its what makes the Departed so good.

Both cops and Batman a necessity in a world filled with a high crime rate and poor crazy criminals.

Well yeah every cop is a piece of s*** in that movie, y’all still haven’t named one movie with one single good cop that wouldn’t classify as copaganda based on y’all’s definition of it

There isn't a lot of it out there, especially not American films since we're taught to love and respect the police here from a very young age

I really look for three main tropes: good cop surrounded by bad apples which we've already discussed, good cop that needs to break the rules to get the bad guy (justifies the rule breaking and even wants you to root for it,) and police as the morally correct character/s in the story. Put simply: if it makes you empathetic towards the police as an institution, it's copaganda in my eyes.

Only reason I say TDK is not copaganda is because the ending is quite clearly very anti cop. They win by doing exactly what law enforcement does: spy on everyone and lie to everyone to preserve order. It’s realistic and doesn’t shy from that. Obviously TDKR turns into copaganda but the middle film is the best one for a reason.

All this to say that I do believe there are great movies that are also copaganda. I gave a bunch of other reasons why I think The Batman is s***.

And again, I feel it very important to point this out, copaganda does not make a movie bad on its own. Some of my favorite media ever (The Wire, basically every John Woo film, etc.) is copaganda from start to finish

It sounds like y’all just fundamentally disagree with the concept of police as an institution and are projecting that onto every piece of media that doesn’t depict them as 100% evil from top to bottom

Been a minute since I watched it but from what I remember they was all corrupt on some level

a bit worried by some reviews saying things like this

Because is it really moral superiority to capture pedophiles and its not really performative. Chris hansen after the show ended continued on youtube. If antyhing the recent wave of yuoutube content creators doing the same thing many of them are performative or not doing it for the right causes or not taking it serious like Jidion

The Departed isn’t copaganda simply because the overall message or ending of that film doesn’t portray cops as the morally correct ones or the saviors. It also involves a cop literally murdering someone in their home without going through the legal system to do so, essentially equating the police to gangsters.

When the movie is literally making you cheer for Batman and the police saving the day from the riddler and his 4chan army, it’s quite clearly saying the police state is necessary. Just because it shows it to be flawed doesn’t mean it’s not arguing for it. It’s literally saying the same s*** a neoliberal politician would “the justice system is flawed but it’s all we got” type s***
