A lot of folks commenting on Drew being forced into the main event, and his face run being stale speaks to the issue with main event faces in general in WWE. Faces CAN work, but only if they're entertaining, which unfortunately most aren't. You can see how a character thrives more as a heel than a babyface.

My bro and I were talking about this last night, and it's honestly not Drew's fault. It's big time on creative/booking, and has been that way for over a decade. A little bit is also due to the Attitude Era (Rock and Austin specifically) being so iconic that anything outside of that sours fans, essentially romanticizing the past. A good portion as well lies on the shoulders of the Super Cena era as well, as there were times where he should've put over other talent. His time at the top was entirely too long, and he became literally "Mr. Face", so if anything resembled Cena-esque, fans soured on that EXPEDICIOUSLY. (See Face Roman)

Personally I like Drew as either a face/heel. He fits the bill and carried WWE during the pandemic after seeing some of his matches. I know folks aren't keen on the "overcoming the odds and keep fighting" hero type dialogue, but it's not a reflection of Drew per say. It's creative being lazy asses not taking a different approach for faces in general, essentially using the Cena template. That doesn't work for everyone; it didn't work for Randy, didn't work for Roman and it doesn't work for Drew; and they have to take a different approach or it's going to be the same results. NXT(HHH) knows this, and you can see how not a lot wrestlers on that show stay one character for TOO long.

This is why I’ve stopped watching/really paying attention to this show

The Head of the Table the only main roster angle with my attention

I just find it hard to ever care about Drew McIntyre and yes, it’s not his fault. It’s the creative. This was something Bully Ray talked about on Busted Open. These guys are great in the ring and have it all but there is no story to get emotionally invested in. There is no life to a lot of these guys and the most they ever show is through their entrances.

And again for whoever and whenever Reigns loses the title. The story and run after the fact is the most important. It’s going to make or break the next potential star. Yet WWE is legit terrible at building any credible opponents and a great baby face.

The first few months of Drew’s run were great, everything from the Orton feud on has been trash.

If they had taken a break on him when he lost at HIAC last year and maybe put the title back on him around now it would have felt fresh again.

I really can see Cena taking the title off of Roman for #17

I can see it happening too. Yet this is a huge problem for WWE when someone wins the title the aftermath is flat and there is nobody that even comes close to being a credible opponent and is super lifeless.

Unless it's a part-timer or one of their golden boys like Drew, Then I highly doubt anyone else is going to have a good reign with the title if they beat Roman.

Exactly! There's nothing for us to get emotionally invested. It's like they're just, there. I feel the same for most face champions tbh. Rinse, recycle, repeat for most of the superstars. Hell they ran the authority angle to the damn pavement.lol

Creative has been a buckshot wound for WWE for decades. Romans current run is the best thing they've done in years, and idk if Heyman is also behind it on top of Romans execution.

Me too, especially since he misses WWE and since it'll be live. He shouldn't win, but he likely will, and that could be either the best thing for Romans character, or completely derail his momentum.

Only way this works is if Roman turns full villain and beats him senseless the next night so that he vacates that title or immediately drops it back to Roman.
