  • Video games, social media, streaming, smart phones, laptops, short-form content, post-pandemic fears, etc.

All of these are factors as to why less and less people are going to the movies year after year

    This is objectively not true

For example Blade Runner 2049 is seen as a masterpiece by a lot of people and that s*** bombed at the box office

Commercial performance does not equate to quality in any medium of art

It bombed cause the budget was high . It still made money man it still made 300 million worldwide the same amount sinners made worldwide . Artist having crazy high budgets on protects they know are only going to reach so many sets themselves up

Okay, The Shawshank Redemption is seen as a classic and it bombed in theaters during its initial run, only made $16M against a $25M budget

It’s not about superiority, it’s about acknowledging the fact that that section of people does exist

I never said people who go to a theater are better than people who don’t

But it is true that there are a large number of people out there who prefer to watch a movie in the comfort of their own home rather than go to a theater to see one, regardless of the difference in quality

There are numerous reasons why less people are going to theaters nowadays, quality of film is absolutely not one of them

I’ve said that from the beginning . Hot mentioning Netflix slop . None of what you are saying changes that some saw the price raises that occurred post pandemic and said “ if each streaming service cost 10-20$ a month would I rather pay them or a theater “ it’s why a list is successful

But all the streaming services they can access at any time in their home it logically makes sense why it shifted .

That was 1994 man. There are many cases of good art flopping for whatever reason but often great art succeeds . Godzilla minus one made 116 million on a budget of 15 million .

The year doesn’t matter, it’s never been true that commercial success correlates to quality

You are now changing what you originally said, which was “make great art and the money will come”

I never said great art can’t make money, I said that making great art doesn’t ALWAYS make money

I’m not saying it’s always true I’ve said mcu movies Barbie Mario aren’t some masterpieces . I’m saying this movie we are having this discussion in will be successful

I am saying if you make great art that in people’s mind is worth the commute , ticket , parking that’s an event that they can’t wait til streaming to see they will come which isn’t most movies for people depends what people want to see . Some don’t care enough to see anything in theatres or watch movies at all .

  • Gonna try and catch this one in theaters, I was meaning to read the book for the longest time but never got around to it unfortunately

You’ll see some post on Twitter about how theaters are too expensive and they showing their receipt and they ordered two large popcorns, three drinks, candy, a pretzel, and a bottle of water

Like no s*** it’s expensive if you getting all that

Getting dinner at the theater and expecting that s*** to be $15

This is Chicago it’s not just premium tickets pushing 20$ man lol . Matinee for Hail Mary for a 3:25 pm showing is 20.79 with the 15% off already applied

    Okayyy okayyyy f*** it up

There's some good deals to be had,
my local theaters are Harkins and they offer the Popcorn Perks voucher, which gives you 12 months to redeem 36 medium popcorns for $40.
And the loyalty cup for $8.50 and you get $3 refills for 12 months.

I'm sure other theaters have something similar, and it isn't so bad then.

People were laughing at every little thing in my showing like yes some of it was funny but I mean EVERYTHING. I went on a Friday night a lot of people were on dates . I like some laughter but the amount they were laughing made me feel like the grinch .

💀💀 I feel you. My crowd had a few collective laughs but nothing too crazy throughout the movie. Twas a vibe

But nah they glossed over how both their crew members died . Which feels like it would be cool to get a funny lead up of deaths to get them there or something but I get it . Radiation poisoning or coma tech .

To me it’s a good movie but didn’t fully love it like something felt missing for me to truly love it . I wish I had imax 70mm by me .

Recommend people see it high or something I was sober

Yeah felt like a 7-7.5 for me, not a 9-10 like everyone saying. Still really worth the watch in a theater. I was off an edible with the fam and it was great.
