This part of the problem, everyone wants everything to be 5 stars and the new masterpiece
Nah this is a thing. People take themselves far too seriously on a movie social media app and think withholding high ratings somehow increases their stature as a critic despite that being their only source of publishing.
I follow a guy on Letterboxd and the other day I was looking at his top 50 list and nothing had above four stars, like get the f*** over yourself!!!!!!!!!
I can only hope they praise my movies the same way
Only it won't be any payola, just good word of mouth

Lol idk bro for me 5 stars mean perfect….idk if that many perfect films exist a year imo
yeah i mean even just the fact that this has to be an event movie in IMAX... like, does it actually? or you just want a couple extra bucks per ticket?
everything is in imax. it's easy to make space look cool and good.
damn im bout to get mad bitter...
but even this being IP is disappointing; what if we got a big and imaginative film like this, starring a star like him, with a team and a budget... but it was ORIGINAL.
just afraid that it'll never happen again
meanwhile tweets are the thing shepherding these people and THATS marketing nowadays.

One off novel adaptations are not IP. Unless you want to make the argument that The Godfather was IP when it was made

Yea not IP my bad. Buy you understand what I mean, yes?

I don’t actually. I’ve read the book and I think this being a big IMAX event movie makes sense? I don’t understand the cynicism around it

christ -- I'm saying original movies aren't made anymore. there's an existing fanbase. less risk. safe filmmaking.

Cloud Atlas a classic to me so I partially get what you mean but that movie wasn’t marketed the same . Long 5 minute trailer . Acknowledged it was out there didn’t try to be as commercial as it should have partially to its own demise but focused on delivering to those who do care

Not every adaptation is safe . But an adaptation of an Andy weir novel I get you as long as you win the fanbase over . I mean it’s an Amazon movie

Of cloud atlas ? It was best in theaters in imax . Has really great transitions . I still think it’s worth a watch

I’m trying to get back into writing too

Yeah I got you, how can I send
Was hoping the 13th early premiere wouldn’t sell out or they would add another day . Now I got to see it a week later

What’s the difference between an original movie and a movie based on a novel you didn’t read

...the novel I didnt read.

Fundamentally, what difference is it to you when you’re sitting in the theater watching the movie. It’s new to you ain’t it

It feels like a pretty safe bet but there’s only been one previous Andy Weir adaptation and it came out over a decade ago. It’s not like we’re getting one of these every three years.
