the VAing in this game has some great highlights

Gregor and Rodion's Cantos were a bit undercooked so we never got to see them truly shine but it's understandable since those Cantos were launched with the game. I really believe Purgatorio is going to make up for it though

Canto V thoughts

“Look at me. And tell me we’re still “one and the same”.”

I loved Canto V, out of all the previous Cantos I think this one had the best pacing as well. Tensions extremely high from the get-go, Great Lake is a very cool setting and Ishmael’s chaotic mental state was also on full display from the beginning and a constant focus throughout this chapter (The Intervallo event also did a good job a laying the foundation for her character)

There was this motif of Ishmael losing her sense of self because of her obsession with Ahab (I liked how they consistently showed this scene of Ishamel looking at herself in the water and she was getting more and more confused at what was reflected back at her). I found it really cool that as the story progressed, Ishmael started conflating killing the Whale (which was Ahab’s obsession) with killing Ahab and the way this combined altogether in the final cutscene before entering the dungeon where Ishmael essentially completely lost her sense of self and transformed into Ahab as she yelled at the whale was so powerful (Again, incredible voice acting performance here, the growl in her every line gave me goosebumps, even Outis getting spooked by her transformation was wild)

During the finale, the fact that it was Heathcliff who saved Ishmael from her pallidification after Ahab manifested EGO and made Ishmael kill her friends put such a huge smile on my face; same two individuals tried to kill each other at the beginning of the story.

Last thing about Canto V but I can’t not mention the amount of character work they also did with Dante this chapter. I feel like Dante was a LOT more involved in this chapter. Despite his incompetence, he really did try to actively seek out Ishamel to help her in anyway even if it was just met with verbal abused from her. The final cutscene where Dante tells her to take helm of her own ship followed by Ishmael confronting Ahab and calling Dante her “compass” made me so happy.

Also, obligatory shoutout to Ahab's voice actor as well, her performance really did an excellent job at communicating how powerful of a force she is; her crashout after Ishmael killed the object of her obsession was glorious. Her character was entertaining as hell too; S tier gas-lighter

Chapter 5.5 Yield my Flesh to Claim Their Bones

The fact that they brought back Bamboo hatted Kim is really cool to me, he was one of the best general receptions in Library of Ruina in terms of cards they gave (Draw of the Sword is a really good 0 light card for clash decks).

Not really spoilers but Distortion Detective mentioned below

I was NOT expecting the person on the radio to be Ezra from Distortion Detective holy f\*\*\*. I had a theory early on in the chapter that Limbus Company is actually funded by Dias (briefly mentioned in Ruina and actually introduced in DD) because of how they kept mentioning how Limbus Company doesn’t have to worry about “funding” (because Dias is basically one of the richest people in the city) and that theory is given more standing after finding out that Ezra is currently working for Limbus Company. Also the VA for Ezra is everything I imagined her to be

This Intervallo is already showing just how much more competent Dante is becoming after Canto V (if we ignore the whole Christmas event lmao)

It'll get more difficult until the end of the chapter, so you might not be able to avoid using the boxes
I was stuck on 6-42 for a few days iirc, but I think Canto 6 story wise has been my favorite so far.

Verg saving the day prob one of my favourite video game moments of all time

I had the biggest smile on my face when he showed up on my screen. I feel like PMs getting more comfortable with putting cutscenes and telling stories in combat because there was quite a few instances of that this Canto; the moment where you get kicked to the title screen during the final boss fight is insane. Also wasn't expecting them to actually add new mechanics this far into the game (The Durante ability)

A piece of information I learned on reddit and didn't know up until now is that the shards a player currently has is halved when the season changes, so keep that in mind.
Also, just in case anyone doesn't know already, season 5 IDs will be available on the dispenser when season 7 comes out so plan accordingly. EGOs will be on the dispenser throughout season 6

Just beat Canto 7 and the boss fights in this Canto were NO joke, holy f***ing unbreakable coins. It's no surprise that they added Chain Battles to this Canto

The last three boss fights were insane and really felt like I just scrapped by, actually, in all 3 instances I had unlevelled LCB ID Sinners subbing in because those unbreakable coins with attack weight can get brutal asf

I probably should get Fluid Sac at one point because I'm barely getting by with Rodion's Hex Nail that only heals 2 other allies and herself

EDIT: That final clash with Don Quixote and Sancho was the coolest s\*\*\* ever, hearing Hero within that context might have elevated it to a top 5 Mili song. The amount of goosebums I got when you pass the 2nd QTE and the lyrics start coming in...
