60,000 deaths a month at the start of the year, when they still reported covid deaths

    Crazy

    https://twitter.com/songpinganq/status/1596967307678318594

    Damn

Pretty insane to see a government have the capacity to quickly and efficiently build hospitals and quarantine zones in times of crisis

In America, neoliberal privatization has so thoroughly gutted the federal government that the only thing that we thought to do was just another round of upward transfers of wealth to Big Tech and Big Pharma - because it’s the only thing left that we CAN do. Well, that and funding a military that intentionally creates irreparable chaos wherever it is deployed.

But I definitely prefer our method. Sure 1million+ people died (1 in 5 deaths globally despite having 1/20 of world population)

but at least no one was so upset at those in power that there were popular violent nationwide protests aimed at the excessive actions of overbearing state authorities

edit: wait nvm that’s exactly what happened

China would have had 5 million more deaths if they had the US per capita case numbers, assuming Chinese healthcare is as good as American

i don't think mods should be muting or banning based on people favoring china. some of the china rhetoric in some threads is for sure weird but there's also a lotta people who just come into china threads and don't even read and just post CHINA BAD which balances it out. more generally the issue is in this sxn most threads which arent filled with repeat posters talking about specific topics just devolve into people swinging by, dropping some pro-topic or anti-topic comments, then leaving. there was even a post telling posters here to actually make high quality contributions (ktt2.com/make-high-quality-threads-32498973) and it was basically ignored lol

I don’t know, I don’t want people who participate in an already pretty empty politics section to be banned or muted. But people like @Lou really just come in here to spam “One million dead Americans” in a thread about China’s wild covid lockdowns.

You have to be willfully ignorant to believe China’s covid deaths, almost 3 years after Covid originally started and China is even going harder on their population about Covid quarantine? Yea, they must be dropping like flies or there’s something else going on that no one knows yet. Yea, I think a majority of people on KTT in Life and/or Politics know the US f***ed up with Covid. But I personally don’t see the need to defend China/CCP’s handling of Covid and use Whataboutism to s*** on America for not doing better. This tribalistic defense of countries is so weird especially defending them just because they oppose a country you dislike.

Bro even the most pro-Western sources do not doubt the reported Covid deaths provided by the government

How can you respond to well publicized knowledge of strict COVID measures with “yeah they must be dropping like flies or there’s something else no one knows” why can you not simply accept that maybe COVID lockdowns actually reduced deaths

And yeah sure you can have your gripes about that but at the end of the day there simply cannot be as many deaths as you think there are in China, with the policy that is currently in place and the relative policy in somewhere like the US

  • Nov 29, 2022

The WHO was allowed to liaise 12 cities and found that the effective policy in place by the PRC was correlated with reported cases and deaths even in the opening stages of the pandemic, where the risks were MUCH much higher

yeah the accuracy of death counts shouldn't be the argument. The argument should be is it worth it three years in to lock down and prevent deaths, or provide freedom to the people and alleviate mental stress. I think Australia had a good balance.

@Sloth had said it well. There is a fundamentally different outlook on culture/liberalism/“freedom” in non western countries that prevent us from just imprinting our frame of thought on Chinese policy

Obviously there were places where control was overbearing, but how exactly did loose COVID control alleviate mental stress during the pandemic in the US? We lost a million people to a disease half the country didn’t believe was real, there were massive transfers of wealth as the working class couldn’t work, and media only grew more divisive? How are we in a better place than China?

Oh no, I fully disagree with how the US handled covid. Australia struck a balance the best out of the first world countries.
