As we all know, GTA VI has been announced which means it's time for people across the world to start looking at the current gen consoles if they don't have one. I'm people.

I understand Pro versions might be coming.

Which one is the better pick this gen? Do all the games have crossplatform multiplayer yet or just a select few? Gamepass vs Sony's version? Do they even have one? Are you high right now? Do you ever get nervous?

sony got better exclusives, but barely any have released for ps5 (returnal, spiderman 2, ratchet ps5, and demons souls are the worthwhile ones)

xbox got backwards compat for the 360 gen

-Only PS5 has been rumoured to receive a Pro revision.
-At some point Xbox Series X will have a digital-only revision with improved Wi-Fi & controller (the system won’t have technical boosts for games apparently, but plans can change so who knows).
-New COD, NBA 2K, and FIFA (aka FC) games support crossplay. Not all new multiplatform games support crossplay right off the bat, but the number is increasing.

Xbox vs. PS5 boils down to whether you see value in Game Pass versus PlayStation’s exclusive games. PS5 is kinda lacking in the exclusive department at the moment though (when compared to the previous PS platforms), and the 2024 lineup only looks "okay" so far—Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a big one for me personally and the main reason why I copped a PS5 in the first place.

I’ve had an Xbox Series X since launch and I’ve been very satisfied with it, but there’s still the problem of lack of worthy exclusives plaguing Xbox. I’m still waiting on that one Xbox (console) exclusive that makes me proud of owning the system. The future lineup of Xbox exclusives does look promising so not all hope is lost.
In the meantime, I’ve enjoyed old backwards-compatible games and Xbox Game Pass. And I have a slight preference towards Xbox over PS5 when it comes to 3rd-party multiplatform games because of a feature known as 'Quick Resume' (look it up if it’s unfamiliar to you). QR is probably the most progressive feature this gen.

I been leaning towards an Xbox because I really wanna play Sunset Overdrive and ReCore. All these years later and they still got my attention, been wanting to play them just never got the chance.

I would wait for the pro version of the PS5. I believe in the court documents that leaked from Xbox they aren't planning on making an improved version, just whatever they drop next generation.

I own both while game pass is cool I really don't use it much. Bunch of fodder games I don't really have interest in or will play for a few hours tops before I decide I'm not interested. If you're more of a casual gamer tho and don't wanna spend much then go with gamepass.

If you f*** with the exclusives Playstation has then go with them. Xbox hasn't really had exclusives and the ones they announced aren't dropping all that soon outside of hellblade which also has taken forever to come out.

If your main priority is GTA6 at possible a higher framerate then PS5 Pro your best gamble. Although I don't think it'll run at 60 frames either way on consoles, but we'll find out.

I can attest to Sunset Overdrive being one hell of a fun game.

ps5 if you want great exclusives and some gimmicks in your controller

xbox if you want easy access to a lot of games and great quality of life features

Yeah, and they put all their talents into what made Sunset Overdrive’s gameplay so much fun and put it into Spider-Man. They honestly picked the perfect people to make that game lol

Would you care to elaborate on the following points:

• some gimmicks in your controller
• great quality of life features

ps5 controller has motion control stuff, touchpad, haptic feedback and triggers that can tighten in certain games

xbox has a feature that suspends your games wherever you leave them so if you play a lot of single player you can turn the console off then when you come back it puts you right back where you were with no loading and no reset thats probably the biggest for me

Pick based on game selection, if any of the PS exclusives look interesting get a PS5

I copped the PS5 cause my whole squad copped it, I have a bunch of PS4 games that I wanted to replay and my PS4s disc drives is weird. Also, I prefer Sony’s exclusives at this point (despite exclusives for both consoles being a bit underwhelming at this point)

One thing that the Xbox series consoles have over is game pass, cheaper to buy (applies to both the S and X), and backwards compatibility with the 360 and some OG Xbox games that are upscaled.

I’ve contemplated copping a series S just to have access to upscaled gta 4, rdr, and max Payne 3

Own a 5 and an S enjoy both.. X technically has better specs than the 5

also quality of life features = some old games are resolution boosted and fps boosted. some 30 fps 720p games turn into 60fps 4k games

Back compat, quick resume and game pass are all a plus of the series x

It's better to get a series x over an s if u wanna play back compat because of the disc drive tbh. Theres more than a few back compat games that aren't on the microsoft store

Only get a PS5 if you’re really going to take advantage of the exclusives which are mostly Japanese games. You should be buying 2-3 exclusives per year to make it worth it.

If you’re only gonna buy an exclusive once every 2-4 years then there’s no point.

If you’re mainly going to be playing multi platform or crossplay games then Xbox is the better value considering the console is cheaper (on sale for $350 rn) and game pass is the best value in gaming.

Xbox has a better controller with vastly superior battery life because you can just buy eneloops that’ll last a week before needing a charge and then you just swap them out. PS5 has haptic feedback and triggers that can increase immersion but the drawback is decreased battery life.

Xbox has more storage at base but PS5 is much easier and cheaper to upgrade storage.

So yea it mostly depends on whether or not you’re really gonna be in it for the exclusives or not. I’m talking Xbox Series X too. Don’t waste money on a series S.
