Let me just preface by saying that both are classics in their own right

For me though, WLR is superior.

While Die Lit is an extension of an already renowned sound - those breezy, bubbly and bright Pi'erre beats - WLR on the other hand is an artist exploring a sound that was up to that point, largely untapped.

The key difference is that Die Lit does that post-SoundCloud summery trap music sound well (in the wider context of the genre, to me Die Lit has always felt like the swan song moment of that sound), while WLR does its 'own' thing well.

Beyond that, WLR feels like the culmination of Carti as an artist. Sometimes across Die Lit does his voice and persona get obfuscated by the multitude of features, whereas on WLR he stands on his own.

Punk Monk for instance, is a ballad of pure vitriol and solitariness that captures the essence of who Carti has become. . . there is no moment like it on Die Lit. Also a stroke of genius that Punk Monk immediately follows the albums most potent moment of tenderness with Control. Control is Carti at his most vulnerable, Punk Monk is him at his most self-affirming - The contrasting tones of both tracks back to back is a lesson in the rigid duality that all men are subject to.

On Die Lit we understood the music, on WLR we begin to understand Jordan Carter

It is no surprise that the final phrase Carti utters on WLR is "fuck all of yall". His transformation into the solitary rockstar he always promised he would become has been fulfilled, and WLR is the narrative of that journey.

very hard to compare the 2. completley different projects.

but i think red just makes it over. idk i cant stand top that makes me like die lit a lot less than i like red. red doesnt really have a "bad" song to me at least. beats are a lot more interesting on red as well.

WLR is more ambitious and I get more out of it on repeated listens, DL is still great but I haven’t gotten ton more out of it than I got out of my first few listens
