What about Wes can't remember them ever acknowledging him lol but Bottle Rocket and Hard Eight actually came out the same year whereas QT was already very established by then

I like Wes but honestly never thought about him when thinking of QT and PTA. It’s more so QT, PTA and Coens, even tho Coens was already established too

Coens kinda like Spielbergo in that they have no easily comparable peers

    Nolan there as well probably

The film’s exact story details are not known, but sources familiar with the project dropped a couple intriguing ideas to THR that Tarantino was toying with. One was that the Hollywood-set tale could serve as a Tarantino goodbye meta-verse with the director’s earlier movies existing in the same era of The Movie Critic (which could work, given that his films have a ’70s vibe). That way, Tarantino could bring back some of the stars of his earlier work to reprise their iconic characters in “movie within a movie” moments, or to play fictional versions of themselves as the actors who played those characters. Another idea was that the film could include a movie theater where some characters could potentially interact with a budding future auteur — such as a 16-year-old Tarantino, who worked as an usher at a Torrence p*** theater (“I was tall enough to get away with it,” Tarantino once explained).

Seems like it was going to be all about him

    Again
I am so happy he not going with this concept for his final film
Hopefully he gets out of his head and makes more than 10

I think there could’ve been some cool s*** he could’ve done with that meta movie idea, but tbh I’m starting to think that it was probably a good idea that Tarantino is starting from scratch

It seems like this movie was just going to be Tarantino sucking himself off for the entire film lmao

  • Apr 23, 2024

Like I definitely think this movie could’ve ended up being really good, but I’d like to see Tarantino go for a more interesting plot for his swan song

It almost feels kind of cliche for a director to make a final film that is basically an ode to all of his other films

Nah I’ve been said Tarantino is a d***head of a person, especially reading himself defending his use of the word nigga.

I try and separate the person from the art

Same way I can love Silver linings playbook and Three kings but will not hesitate to smack dog s*** out of David O Russell

his films are an extension of who he is as a person, a racist with a foot fetish. the art is a product of the artist so you can't separate them, it makes no sense.

How much credit do yall give to Tarantino for his dialogue?

It’s already said majority of Umas dialogue in Kill Bill was just from convos Uma would have in real life and Tarantino would record it. The Sicilian story was a story he heard his roommate tell. Jackie Brown, majority of that dialogue is from Elmore Leonard. And I’m sure there’s more examples.

Do yall dock points for that? Or is it like a Kanye “genius in sampling” situation where it takes a level of genius to hear a real-life conversation and be able to work it into a screenplay.

I think it's more of a genius in sampling sort of situation.
I can remember when I first watched Pulp Fiction and thinking, "wait these guys are just shooting the s*** in a movie" and thinking about how innovative it felt to me.

and that made me open my eyes a little bit about movies and writing in general like not every single word that comes out of a character's mouth needs to lead to something -- just like real life. it's not like we're all in some crazy plot where what street I mention here is gonna lead me to some crazy stoyline. sometimes we just be randomly talking about burgers lmao and s*** we like. makes it feel more real and when I'm watching a movie, I wanna feel like I'm there with them if that makes sense

I agree! I’m sure when he heard the Sicilian story there was no relation to True Romance at the time, so for him to see a way to weave it in and make it make sense takes some genius. With some creatives you just have to present something already established and they’ll know how to twist and remake it into something original and dope.

Also the genius about the burger scene is not only does it feel like real life banter, Tarantino still pays it off later with the college kids. Even the foot massage convo, it’s setting up the stakes of the date between Mia and Vincent

no offense but you dont get what I'm saying at all. art is the product of artists, artists like all people are incomplete and messy vessels of ideology and that comes out in the art they create. quentin tarantino likes to drool over feet IRL, not coincidentally his films are full of shots of feet. this isnt a particularly groundbreaking way of understanding art.
