Lyrically I was never impressed by R.Kelly. They always read as very simple and not really complex. Innuendos weren't all that creative either. Now maybe this is a result of him being illiterate for much of his life like he's said, but yeah, when it came to Kelz he was never saying/singing anything earth-shattering.

All that being said, simple lyrics isn't always a bad thing if all you're trying to do is connect with the listener. Also I'm sure he made it easy to understand for the teenagers he wanted to get at

Ehh I think the revision to his legacy is warranted given the content of his music. It’s almost our duty as consumers since it’s out in the open to make sure we’re informed about the alleged inspiration that led to some of these songs. From there if you still wanna overlook his transgressions then it is what it is.

As a heavy RnB enthusiast, I’d still generally consider him the king of RnB.

his own he had more poise up to happy people/saved me and his fall off happened after double up his last good album

tp3 and double up is when he became club heavy and very blunt - including the feats of that era

I remember sophomore year in college (like 2014) i was lead singer in a band and the (white) guitarist wanted us to do a cover of ignition.

Even back then I was like ehhh lyrics too cringy im not singing that s***

his music is not sexy it’s just about s***and there’s a big difference

Looking back at r kelly music, it’s great production but some of these lyrics you can tell were written FOR teenagers.

Very few people go to RnB for lyrics, even trilogy abel lyrics are horrendous, but the music and vocals are so good

bad musician is the point i quoted nothing in his musicianship is bad even if you don't like his style of music. basic, cheesy lacklustre etc can all be attributed to his lyrics yes but 'bad musician' is simply incorrect i get the comedian was tryna oversauce but c'mon he saying all his music is downright bad is just wrong that's like saying taydolf switler isn't successful like good set though
