Lyrically I was never impressed by R.Kelly. They always read as very simple and not really complex. Innuendos weren't all that creative either. Now maybe this is a result of him being illiterate for much of his life like he's said, but yeah, when it came to Kelz he was never saying/singing anything earth-shattering.
All that being said, simple lyrics isn't always a bad thing if all you're trying to do is connect with the listener. Also I'm sure he made it easy to understand for the teenagers he wanted to get at
there is so many songs that man has wrote for, or executive produced albums/beats for many many artists
half of rnb in the late 90s to mid 2000s is gone without him - even artists you wouldnt even know he's connected too, man and women
sadly he's a huge weirdo
kelly has literally wrote songs for mj too, among many many others
an interesting piece of trivia tha could have made an alternative timeline: unfinished business 1 was also an idea kelly had for 2pac too (was put on the backburner till way later when he redid it with jay z), but then 2pac died and he never met him although they did have a meeting set up before that was missed - he did have a recording time set up for the og version of the later on massive song I Wish as a feat as well few months after Vegas, but again he died. which the song was also put on the backburner until later.
edit: i mean best of both worlds was an idea for 2pac, not unfinsihed business. kinda wild jay z had 3 full ass collab albums with kelly lol. even unfinished 2 even tho they fell out during the tour of unfinished 1 and jay pepper sprayed his ass. they did part 2 just as a business move
Bro his lyrics are awful dawg let’s keep a buck.
his feats sucked most of the time
his own he had more poise up to happy people/saved me and his fall off happened after double up his last good album
tp3 and double up is when he became club heavy and very blunt - including the feats of that era
Ehh I think the revision to his legacy is warranted given the content of his music. It’s almost our duty as consumers since it’s out in the open to make sure we’re informed about the alleged inspiration that led to some of these songs. From there if you still wanna overlook his transgressions then it is what it is.
As a heavy RnB enthusiast, I’d still generally consider him the king of RnB.
yeah, its sad as f***. all that talent and success trapped within a terrible mind.
we can never let a rkelly situation happen ever again.

“Very blunt”
U remind me of my car one of his earliest hits fam he was blunt from the jump
he was a way better producer than a writer

Oh s*** he produced this?

U can’t expect a dumb nigga like this to write complex lyrics💀
Oh s*** he produced this?
couldn’t tell u how shocked i was when i looked up the credits
I listen to the I wish (remix) song by him daily..and I hate that I love it so much but that song is undeniable

Very few people go to RnB for lyrics, even trilogy abel lyrics are horrendous, but the music and vocals are so good
I remember sophomore year in college (like 2014) i was lead singer in a band and the (white) guitarist wanted us to do a cover of ignition.
Even back then I was like ehhh lyrics too cringy im not singing that s***
his music is not sexy it’s just about s***and there’s a big difference
Looking back at r kelly music, it’s great production but some of these lyrics you can tell were written FOR teenagers.
1.07 'he a bad musician' nah he gotta be trolling cant be serious
this like when an ex housemate said 'kanye is a s*** rapper' could never trust his judgement again

This is not true at all. Most people literally listen to R&B for the lyrics wtf its part of why the toxic R&B and boss/bad b**** wave got so popular with women today

Lot of his lyrics on his big s***hit songs are comically bad dawg
I can acknowledge the man’s genius where it counts (production, writing(?)) while also i can say…eh he wasnt even the type of R&B EYE was growing up on

bad musician is the point i quoted nothing in his musicianship is bad even if you don't like his style of music. basic, cheesy lacklustre etc can all be attributed to his lyrics yes but 'bad musician' is simply incorrect i get the comedian was tryna oversauce but c'mon he saying all his music is downright bad is just wrong that's like saying taydolf switler isn't successful like
good set though

exactly this comedian tryna rewrite rnb history like r kelly classics are jason derulo tier songs

Of course he was over saucing it, i do think one central aspect (and i am rl friends with the nigga) is that mofos overrate DAFUCK out of R Kelly fam. And yes he held the industry on his back (and as mentioned earlier u could argue to the genre’s eventual detriment)
And for some of us in that camp, we aint rate him like that, BEFORE the cases started dropping because of how cheesy and cringe some of them songs was dawg.
Highschool insertcoolnamehere was telling niggas d’angelo was the king of R&B off 2 albums dawg.
P.S Smoke of Playa’s “selfish” >>> s***in the kitchen

Nothing wrong with simple lyrics at all especially in R&B but hearing “Girl! Im Ready! To! Toss! Your! Salad!” In such a strong tone just has me laughing more than being like “yo he think he me fr” (even if that sentiment is shared however for shawties in my age demographic)
Now with all my aforementioned slander @mdmadon I’ll leave an olive branch here
This is still classic audio cinema.
