    Less chart chasers more innovation

I dunno about the next 5 years but it will lose the top spot eventually like every other genre in history. Anyone claiming otherwise is just deluding themselves.

The "rap is gonna die soon" narrative is so played out.

i think you bring up some good points but i dont think if it happens its going to be in a short span of a few years. i think we gta see how it transitions sonically (if at all) on the mainstream within the next few years which i think it will. rap has the ability to embody any and all genres and i think the mainstream should catch up and realize that

Artists making a good living is important but the quality of the music is even more important. Artists seeing rap as business opportunity rather than an artform is what's led to the cheapening of the sound lately. Also a f***ton of popping rappers rn are nonblack or come from middle income/rich families. Times have changed.

  • Yeah probably

Should artists make a good living yes, should artists make good money off touring and merch yes, should artists branch out and look for other opportunities through fashion/sponsorships of course. But when this becomes the majority of artists goal the balance gets f***ed up and the music starts to become lowest common denominator.

Rap being one of the few ways for poor blacks to leave the hood should be a criticism of the system we live in, not a quality of it. Obviously reducing the monetary emphasis people place on music should be done AFTER economic reform that aids black people in bad places because of unfair discrimination, but the faults in people putting monetary emphasis on art are still present and worthy of criticism

I fully get that I’m speaking as an outsider bro. I speak as an outsider on essentially everything. I’m just saying how is we it even if it isn’t true
