It’s more about the story you’re telling, tbe plot , the narrative
Oliver Twist
EST Gee has a story to tell
Rx Nephew has a story to tell
Bladee has a story to tell
Durk has a story to tell
Drake has a helluva story to tell
Youngboy has a crazy life story to tell
Rod Wave has a Rocky story to tell
Carti has dramatic story to tell
Big Sean and Rocky have no story so people lose interest
What is Carti and drakes story
What is Carti and drakes story
Carti's music details the gritty struggle of a young black man from poverty still dealing with hood beef despite becoming a gender bending fashion icon and the Blueprint for a generation of rappers
"I'm servin' that base (Yeah)
I'm servin' that base (Base, yeah)
I'm servin' that base (Base, yeah)
I got me some thots (Thots, thots)
They thought I was gay (Slatt, woah)"

Sean does have a story...
Still true
Thats why i dont listen to ken carson or whatever bc its so obvious theyre just repeating what theyve heard
Sean does have a story...
Read that whole thread. He said somewhere, Sean used to do it but now he’s not. And I kinda can see it. People loved Sean during Finally Famous and maybe cause he genuinely wanted to tell and told his story of his road to getting famous, then finally being famous, full filling his dream of being famous etc.
People loved Sean during that time where he genuinely shared his story cause he was driven to do so. Now it seems like he’s not captivating to people like that anymore
Also Tyler has story but it’s not captivating it’s lulling ,
Travis has no story — like at least lie
Tyler’s story is hella captivating
Created a unique brand of alt weirdos, in the closet, buying a bunch of s*** to fill an emotional void, obsessing over people who are taken, lost in the world, eccentric, rich black man with a passport. Masculine, but he likes skin care and the color pink. There’s a lot there.
I dunno. I feel like he’s got as much story as Drake these days, at the very least.
He understood
Stupid idiot

"I Decided" is literally a full story front to back.
We acting like Sean's last album didnt do 100k. Wolves went platinum.
Rap fans just listen for the production. Be real.
this. boldy james has a crazy story but nobody cares if you not rapping on ATL Jacob beats
OP is right that it’s a bigger part than most people realize, but I disagree that it’s the biggest aspect.
Look at Call Me If You Get Lost.
Tyler’s narratively just spinning his wheels for like an hour on that album if storytelling is all you’re looking at. But it sounds amazing, has great rapping, and fuses styles in a way he hasn’t really done before, so it’s still well loved.
That being said, Flower Boy, Igor, and even Wolf and Goblin are more highly regarded in their respective communities because they have more cohesive and interesting themes/stories, so story is still very important
And don’t come at me with some “but what about Wiltshire” s***, that song was way too long, ruined a good beat with a story that I couldn’t care less about, and, like I just said, only featured a non-compelling story, not a captivating one
