stories can be real useful writing devices. if u want impactful lyrics, a story is prob ur best bet. if u dont care abt that tho and u just wanna make s*** that sounds cool asf on sum WLR s***, then f*** a story.

In seriousness, obviously your image is a big part of your music, but the quality of music is ultimately the most important part of it. It seems like you don’t actually enjoy music, you just enjoy romanticizing the life of a artist.

Shady AntOP is right that it’s a bigger part than most people realize, but I disagree that it’s the biggest aspect.
Look at Call Me If You Get Lost.
Tyler’s narratively just spinning his wheels for like an hour on that album if storytelling is all you’re looking at. But it sounds amazing, has great rapping, and fuses styles in a way he hasn’t really done before, so it’s still well loved.
That being said, Flower Boy, Igor, and even Wolf and Goblin are more highly regarded in their respective communities because they have more cohesive and interesting themes/stories, so story is still very important
And don’t come at me with some “but what about Wiltshire” s***, that song was way too long, ruined a good beat with a story that I couldn’t care less about, and, like I just said, only featured a non-compelling story, not a captivating oneI had a thought about this whole thing that maybe it’s not just what story they directly tell through lyrics but that its a combination of multiple factors for what OP is trying to say. You know, if you look at the stories Tyler tells through lyrics on Call Me If You Get Lost, it might seem like it’s just him flexing, talking about cars, no stories. But if you look at Tyler as a person and his whole life, it tells a story in my eyes. The guy who never flexed and just tried to make great music now pops out and talks his s***, shows off etc.
