pH3eWho’s saying it’s dead? What’s their rationale? And what replaced it? From rock to disco to pop, hair metal to grunge to alternative and back to pop, it’s all been pretty clear cut. In the modern era we have several genres coexisting on the charts, and it’s going to stay that way for the foreseeable future.

Apart from Don Toliver who isn't even truly "young" himself, Drake, Cole, Ye, Rocky and Future got the most streamed albums of this year and they all either pushing 40 or pushing 50 while debuting more than 15 years ago.
It's 2026 and we still have "the Big 3", Future, Kanye, Jay-Z, Travis, and Tyler dominating the conversation more than the new guard. Youngboy, Keem, Lil Baby, Yeat, Ken Carson, Rod Wave, Carti, etc. feel like role-players by comparison.
That's not the greatest sign. But, quality wise, hip hop is absolutely in a great spot.
Tons of great projects dropped this year so you can still feast off of that.

Why are we blaming people for being influential I don't get it.
And is it their fault? Or are we missing the point where I am emphasizing that media is clearly picking a side to push because of the engagement farming that comes along with covering certain artist rather than telling interesting stories/breaking new artist?
There's a literal whole other side of this sphere that is more so inspired by Earl Sweatshirt and more traditional leaning rap that doesn't get nearly the same amount of media attention (online) in comparison to the success of their streaming and touring businesses. Mike, Navy Blue, Mavi etc. Do you blame them for not being the next J. Cole? Are the raps not rappy enough? Or are they actually playing in a lane that naturally has less exposure/less outlets for promotion (online).

What's even worse, a lot of times newer rap fans got their tastes shaped around that 2016-2018 timeframe in a way that straight up disregarded the "classic" rapping as some dusty and corny bs lol. Not necessarily everyone was like that, but you could see that sentiment running around.

The new La Reezy is drawing on Andre 3k but he's just doing the old came from nothing, counting my lucky stars come up story stuff. So even if you have a reference pool that goes father back, you can still be totally played out.
