y’all clowning him but he got sim swapped . ain’t like he gave them the account it’s still dumb but if someone got ur number and know what they doing they can still sim swap u

Everyone should have two factor authentication and call thier cell phone provider to enable a number lock to prevent the number being switched to another provider

Make sure your numbers are locked with your mobile providers and enable 2FA

How can people switch your number to another provider/what is that for?

I call AT&T pretending to be you

Tell them I am switching carriers and need to swap the number over to Verizon, T-Mobile etc

They ask me security questions: Best friend, childhood home, etc

I, presumably have done research on you via social media and answer those questions

    They port the number over

I try to login to your account and do a password reset

They send an sms verification, because I have your number I receive the notification and change your password and steal your money

What's two factor authentication and a locked number?

Two factor authentication is a second set of authentication in addition to your normal password

So instead of just needing your password, you will have to use an app on your phone to input a time based password, one that refreshes every 30 seconds or so. This means that even if your passwords are leaked online, your account will not be compromised

A number lock is when you go to your phone providers website, and set up a number lock

This means that if someone calls in pretending to be you and asking to switch the number, the phone company will say that the number is locked and unable to be switched and that you will have to go into your account settings and disable that

It’s another level of protection against phishing
