Funny album in that I’ve listened to one song (Fighting my Demons) & am convinced the album is great just as long as it all sounds like that
I mean I would say for the most part it does sound like that song. that beat hard tho
First song is epic, really enjoying this. Reminds me of the latest MGMT melodically
Have only listened to those singles once. Just remember the heavy Oasis influence on one of them
Are you gonna listen then?
I might if ur descriptive a bit I gave one of the Bar Italia albums a listen for you
Sounds of Summer – The Beach Boys [2003]
rock, surf music, pop, doo-wop
Y’all kept talking about them here and I already liked Wouldn’t It Be Nice, so I listened to their compilation Sounds of Summer and I really enjoyed it. In the past days, I’ve playing it constantly while doing other stuff because it’s really relaxing 🧘🏻♂️ the lyrics about girls, surfing, and stuff like that are really up my alley

Rhoda Scott - 1972 Full Broadcast
Overall Thoughts:
Needs subtitles for an English speaking audience, but the organ playing is sublime and the organ-drums pair is novel. This was shot between her albums Live at the Olympia and Live at the Club Saint-Germain. Dutch drummer Cees Kranenburg joins her on both, as he does here, but she's accompanied by a saxophonist and then flautist respectively. I guess that makes this broadcast a more direct appreciation of her, including her appeal on camera. The Hammond is a very involved instrument and her dress is amazing.
Fav Sequence(s):
At one point she plays a solo with her feet on the bass pedals
7/10, can't wait to hear her live albums

Had to cut this s*** off at Oasis comparison. Ruined it

The MGMT song, not this! There is no Oasis here.
Ganger - Veeze: 5/10
Had super high expectations for this album after so many people and publications rated it so highly. I knew it would be a Michigan style album so I knew what to expect genre wise, but man was I let down by this album. Way too long for one, and his half asleep delivery does nothing to make the runtime any easier to digest. A few songs here and there that I enjoyed, but heavily disagree with all of the praise this album has been getting.
Javelin - Sufjan Stevens: 9/10
I'm pretty sure this was the first Sufjan album I've listened to in full, I've always been aware of him but for some reason never sat down and listened to a full album by him. This album was incredible! Genuinely got choked up a few moments throughout, and there's something about the instrumentation here that just sounds so warm and inviting. S*** Talk is easily one of my favorite songs of this year (if not the decade), a true highlight on an album full of beautiful music.
Live Vol. 2 - Parcels: 8/10
Been a Parcels fan for a few years now, was super excited when I heard they released a second Live album. One word I'd use to describe this album: smooth. It really feels like a studio recording, and it's really cool they recorded a live house album with all live instruments. I could see the criticism about it being repetitive, but for anyone who enjoys the nightclub scene and wants a live album that emulates the feeling of being in one, this album will do exactly that.
Erotic Probiotic 2 10/10
It’s like a vapor wave R&B album. Singer/producer with a baritone-like voice idk maybe I’m wrong but their voice is still a lower range than most. Like a typical male talking voice. The production is so ethereal and dance-y. It’ll wash over u like ocean tides. The lyrics are also very personal, profound, but I’d still like to dive deeper into the lyrics it’s pretty hard to make out lyrics at times. But when I can make them out it’s about love lost, time, death etc

Teenage Dream – Katy Perry [2010]
pop
This album is good but a little underwhelming because judging by the singles and the whole imagery and concept of that era, you would think it’s entirely like that, but no. There are many ballads, and they are mostly towards the end while the bops are in the beginning. (Circle The Drain is a nice pop rock song that would fit her debut album) I think the album would work better if she went FULL BOPS through the whole thing with some ballads here and there (like The One That Got Away), maintaining the uplifting catchy ~teenage dream~ vibes constantly. Dawn FM, 24K Magic and Renaissance are some examples of albums like this. Either way, it’s still a nice album with classic hits and great aesthetic.
Fav songs: California Gurls, E.T., The One That Got Away
The Age of Pleasure – Janelle Monáe [2023]
afrobeat, reggae, soul
No, it's nowhere near the level of The ArchAndroid and The Electric Lady, but that's not what Janelle intended with this album. It's a 30 minute summery project, very chill and joyful, cool to play while doing something. And a lot of traditional Janelle characteristics are still present such as the transitions.
Fav song: Water Slide
Ultraviolence - Lana Del Rey
One of the tumblr era defining albums Had a listening sesh with some vz thread members for this the other day
Absolutely enjoyed what Dan & Lana did on this and even though it wanes a bit in the middle it starts and ends on quite a high note. My 4th/5th Fav Lana project.
7.5/10
Fav songs: Westcoast, Pretty when you Cry, Cruel World, Old Money, and Brooklyn Baby.
