r&b is on a spectrum
pop being on one side and soul being on the other
too many singers going the pop way when they CAN sing. mainly because melodic rappers have taken over in a lot of spaces when it comes to singing about “pain” or “hurt”
Yea wen melodic rap became mainstream in 2016 it kinda defeated the purpose of RnB that was coming out. Honestly with drake coming nobody needed it. Most niggas followed his formula
Are the singles buzzing? I LOVE the new stuff. Hit different was most played song last year
I think good day is either #1 or about to be #1, plus shirt is a tik tok trend currently. Hit different flopped because SZA gays don’t like when she has features on her songs
Brent isn’t bigger than Chris...
Brent may not be bigger than Jaquees
Jacques last album was actually fire
This is a post declaring Lucky Daye better than Brent
Lucky Daye got this one song that’s one of my favorites but I can’t even remember what it’s called
KING BRENT
I f*** Brent
But I do recognize fans have an affinity for romanticizing the past showing under dog’s overwhelming amounts of love
Sometimes unjustified (often times unjustified)
Brent isn’t playing a role in keeping the lights on right now...
Jacquees has more impact than Brent right now.. in my humble opinion
First off let's get something straight here. Anything can be pop
Pop means popular but it’s also a genre of music which at this point isn’t even the most popular genre.
Pop label is like alt girls like Charli xcx
I f*** Brent

You what Brent??

Na this isn’t true. It will always be considered popular music. Hip hop is pop. You can structure a song for it to be pop on purpose but you can do that within any common genre. Charlie is also under the genre of “hyper-pop” but that’s just a term they gave it

Nah anything can be Pop. It's an all encompassing genre. It may have a specific sound I suppose being catchy or something like that, but any type of music can be considered pop. Just means that it's popular. Most rap music can be considered pop music these days

They acting like just cause it's poppy that doesn't make it R&B anymore or something itt
Imagine thinking there could be a superstar who isn't poppy

So someone like Frank Ocean is R&B then. He certainly sings with soul. Gospel influence and general themes of religion are ever present in his music, and he frequently collaborates with gospel and soulful singers for his albums (when he does collaborate at least).
Yet there are people saying he isn't R&B.
The Weeknd definitely has soul and rhythm in his music. His lyrics/songwriting is often depressing af as well. Is that not what is heard in blues music? And he definitely has a very soulful delivery in most of his music.

Just cause niggas decide to sing over some guitars or 80s synthwave don't mean they aren't or don't make R&B music. Cause if y'all say that then that means y'all saying Prince isn't R&B. And you not gonna sit there and tell me the man who made Diamonds & Pearls, Pheremone, If I Was Your Girlfriend, Space, It's Gonna Be Lonely, Do Me Baby, Purple Rain, I Would Die 4 U, The Ballad of Dorothy Parker isn't R&B. Especially when he went on to be a major influence the niggas y'all claim to be "traditional R&B" like a Maxwell, BJ the Chicago Kid, Miguel, Ginuwine, D'Angelo, or even Musiq Soulchild.
He is until he does in my room and dhl
But Charli xcx isn’t even a high charting artist anymore
Yea but she had pop songs in the past (popular singles) but she falls under the electronic dance emo category if anything
But why do you say that like it's a bad thing some artists want to go a pop route
"Too many singers going pop"
Pop doesn't have to be a bad thing
there’s simply no balance cause like i said when they CAN sing it’s straight pop and ima just be blunt, it’s usually white washed
