SZA got a spark. Summer Walker is doing well, Jhene Aiko is doing alright But none of these artists today are getting the major exposure at the level that artists of the same lane were getting 20-30 years ago since hip hop completely took over. They're all popular, but they're just "there" if you know what i mean, except maybe SZA who i think is the only one that's made a true impact of recent.
Now i'm well aware here are a lot of good independent R&B artists, but the genre as a whole is more or less underground outside of a handful of names. It's either you now either infuse rap culture to fit in or get shifted to the neo-soul category.
The last great R&B in terms of impact was like Usher's Confessions in my opinion and that was back in 2004 nearly 20 years ago now.
Summer Walker is pretty much a superstar. she gets as much hate as someone like Britney Spears did back in the day
Drake
CB
?
drake is not a R&B superstar. he is a hip-hop superstar. making a R&B song here and there doesn't make you lead that genre, no matter how much inspiration he takes from it.
now if he starts making full on R&B projects, we'd be talking.
What is Chris Brown?
thot music
Perhaps because it's not as much of a monster as it used to be as a whole? We had Chris Brown, Usher, R. Kelly, Ashanti, Beyonce, ECT ECT ECT. R&B was a beast of a genre in the early 2000's. Since then it's fallen back, and as a result so have the 'superstars' within the genre. The talent is definitely still there.
It's just not as popular anymore, same way rock was popular in the early/mid 2000s
Abel is not R&B.
Summer Walker out now
SZA out now
HER out now
Bryson out now
Jhene Aiko out now
I love the double standards lol. Jhene Aiko is barely r&b, I'd put her in a pop category while Bryson Tiller is similar to BBTM Weeknd, but more pop rap
I think OP is asking about artists from 2010-now
Chris Brown is that lol. More active now than ever. And more r&b now than ever.

Drake got R&B jawns after jawns
2019 song of the summer no guidance
A whole disc full of R&B jawns

Did you even listen to Souled Out?

Jhene and Bryson are not pop

Chris Brown came out in 2004
He gotta learn how to sing first.
you sound like a hater right now
You consistently just have such bad opinions on music I don't get it. SZA is great, Summer Walker had a very solid debut, Brent Faiyaz is on fire rn, Party has potential to drop something incredible still as well, and not mentions others doing their thing rn that are all very talented.
If you think that then just listen to more music that’s all I got to say.
