Jul 5, 2020·1 replyWhat exactly is the issue with the term? It's an accurate descriptor of popular black music at the time which incorporated more guitar and bass (rhythm) with somber lyrics (blues). A much better alternative than "Race Music".
Don't see how it is a***ogous to the "Urban" category at the Grammys.

Biggest artist in the world was black. Also whats the point of saying stuff like you just did? Are you complaining that white people are succesful or what is your motive?

I don’t think that’s what was being said lol. Also James Brown is more likely to be called funk/soul than R&B. The Beach Boys did make R&B music though as well as The Beatles, it was just called rock or pop because of race. Wild Honey by The Beach Boys and Rubber Soul by The Beatles both damn near could’ve came out on Motown (because Motown was the main influence on both)
