Idk what classic means for everyone but these are definitely essential albums for new rap fans

    Tupac 3 - MATW, AEOM, 7 Day
Nas 4 - Illmatic, IWW, Stillmatic, Lost Tapes
Jay 4 - RD, BP1, Black Album, AG
Kanye 6 - CD, LR, Grad, 808s, MBDTF, Yeezus

808’s, Yeezus, Graduation and American Gangster aren’t classics IMO, we are just on a Kanye west site

My arguments for the Kanye albums:

808s is a pop/R&B classic and one of the most influential albums of my lifetime, it started showing signs of being a classic when so many artists started namedropping it as an influence.

Grad was larger than life on release, hip hop becoming bigger than pop, and the content still holds up over much of his newer work. That was the arguably the biggest that a legend like Kanye could ever get in the mainstream without losing what made them special.

Yeezus is instantly memorable and iconic, one of the most debated albums of the century so far and everyone should hear it. Huge influence on hyperpop and deconstructed club (via Arca).

The Coli would kill me for saying this s*** but yeah f*** em

Everyone judges classics in different ways I suppose, but for me personally quality of music is first and foremost and influence and impact are way down on the list, some albums have all the boxes ticked, but for me if it ticks the influence and impact box but I don’t think the actual music is on the same level I struggle to put it as a classic

    Nas has one
HOV has three - RD, BP, TBA
    Pac has about 4
    Kanye has 9

This kinda accurate until you got to Kanye but whatever we all got a lil Stan in us.

dude is the most overrated artist in hip-hop

Chill he's rap Jesus put some Respek on his name. Even if he dropped illmatic and disappeared forever he'd still be considered an all time great. Rakim never top paid in full how could he. They caught lighting in a bottle and the s*** changed the game.

I hate the “it’s a classic off influence alone” argument, a classic should be a classic of quality alone IMO

Influence is typically used by those who have no other argument that a project is great so that latch onto something intangible
