Decided to give this album a spin while settling in for a good wank, and found myself pleasantly surprised by just how much I ended up enjoying this record.

I, like many of you, was less than appreciative of this album upon its release. Despite my initial excitement at having new music from the gawd himself, after the first 2 weeks or so, it just felt... underwhelming.

These feelings continued every time I tried to spin this record. Even with its 30 min runtime, it just felt like such a chore. I put this album on the shelf, fully expecting to never listen to it again, barring Yikes and occasionally, Ghost Town.

But something changed. This listen felt different somehow. Something clicked. The record held up. Sonically the record felt like the bridge between the "Greatest Hits" vibe of Pablo and the ultra cool minimalism of JIK. I found myself not only appreciating this album, but enjoying it.

It paints a picture of Ye in recovery, trying to find the "alien" that had led him to crush the front half of the 2010s, topping himself again and again just when it seemed like his best work was behind him. Appropriately this album feels like an expressionist moodboard, a collage of sounds directed towards communicating exactly what ye was feeling directly leading up to it's release.

and it's great. upon listening with fresh ears, and really giving the album a fair spin, I'm ready to admit that it touched me.
