Ross was in that era tho 2006 it took his first album till 2016 to crack platinum..guess that era wasn’t that easy

Did Ross have a Dre and Em co-sign?

  • Dec 28, 2020

One thing about that era was it was harder to get on, but once the artist signed it was a lot easier to get on because the label controlled radio.

No but he had a jay-z cosign

And you bugging limiting 50 to em and dre. Do you not here me i understand you was like 3 when 50 was buzzing but when he dropped his first 3 mixtapes it was over for there he was the biggest new comer before the em and dre deal why do you think they signed him for 1 million? In 2001-2002 50 was the biggest unsigned hype it wouldve sold 5 million without them because before the deal he was buzzing

Nah bro not too many people outside of the east coast knew who 50 was before GRODT. You really downplaying the impact of prime Eminem and Dre had on 50 worldwide and sales. Dre and Em could sign him for 1 million because they knew it would pay off because their names are attached to it. 50 created buzz but it’s definitely the former rather than the ladder.

Ross is from the south and was never on Hovs label, not the same.

Aftermath was the s*** in the 2000s, but I dont think dre and eminem deserve too much credit for 50s rise. The whole group was white hot at the time, and 50 did a lot of s*** on his own. G Unit was a success, he put the game on and gave him his biggest hits - hate it or love it, how we do, westside story etc.

That right there showed 50 had some rub of his own as well, he wasn't just riding the eminem wave. Documentary is a classic and sold really well, partially because of 50

If it was more 50 then why he didn’t have the longevity in his career?

Yea I didnt think about it, but you're right. Xzibit wasn't signed to aftermath right? He was just an ally. Same with busta, although busta signed in like 2006 and kinda flopped

Idk, I've Thought about it alot. The rap game changed and he didnt adapt when he needed to

He was a mega star, but come 2008-2009 the market changed and he lost most of his fanbase. He had his own fans, but most weren't die hard, ride or die fans. Those hits gave him a large casual fan base, but those people bandwagoned to the next trend once the time came.

BISD which dropped in 2009 sold like 150k first week and was pretty much an album for his hardcore fans. So the sales for that album is a good measure of how many legit, hardcore fans 50 still had in 2009

He wanted to beef with everyone. He burned bridges and refused to get with the times.

Or possibly, he was carried by one of the most iconic producers oat and had Em to help widen his fan base. That would be the case if his fan base weren’t loyal to him like you mentioned. 150k is good for 2020 but not in 2009 😂 no matter how it’s sliced.
