Criterion singlehandedly saved physical media
S***load of others and with their fancy editions lol
Biggest lie ever told
There’s a billion films they would never release that deserve to be released
I was joking but they definitely started this wave of boutique restoration labels that will help keep physical media alive.
And of course there are way too many films for Criterion to ever release a version of them all. They should mainly be focused on things that are actually at risk of being lost forever imo but they need to pay the bills with these editions of new s*** like Parasite that doesn't actually need a Criterion at all.
Thats wild, one of the only reasons I’d go to a Best Buy is for physical media.
I used to love trawling theough the DVD bins and CD aisles as a kid
I know right
You can keep it I just think it’s hyperbole and I get annoyed when ppl say it’s dying
It’s just becoming more of a niche collectors market. The quality of everything is going up
No you’re not wrong but it is kinda telling when at least I see a headline like that
It’s never gonna die just gonna be less common
If I am the last person buying physical media so be it
Even online?
Some of the stores already got rid of their physical media sections but you can still preorder steelbooks to pick up at those locations
Go to your local Big Lots right now and buyout all the $3 DVDs, y'all bout to make a killing on eBay.
Best Buy probably about to go bankrupt in this decade anyways. It's really just an adult version of Toys R Us.
ehhh niggas are always gonna need tvs and computers and cameras n s***
Them stopping online sales is crazy the physical part doesn’t shock me
The one I go to has been reducing theirs for a few years now to the point I don’t even bother browsing them anymore, which sucks bc I’m always down to buy some.
I been held off on copping the Sopranos bluray set thinking I’ll get a deal on black Friday, now it’s gone

I think it is more so for the movies that will be coming out that have slightly less of a chance to be available physically. If it really does stop and stuff goes straight to streaming but that’s worst case of course.
If anything the studio will sell on their site or something and make it preorders to find out how many people want a particular film.

Bout to be serious deals if they are looking to liquidate their stock lol

We use to go to stores and rank movies with my brother back in high school/coming home from college good memories
I'm interested in seeing just how niche the idea of physical media becomes. Would be interested in seeing if they ever got to the point where they become collectors items for big fans who are willing to shell out 100$+.

We’re already there pretty much
New boutique 4k releases are $50+ for some companies and since a lot are European they cost $60-90 for US customers to import
If you want a good company to buy any boutique releases from use Diabolik or OrbitDVD (orbit is cheaper)
I’m an orbit stan at this point. They will ship one movie with a comical amount of bubble wrap and a paper receipt inside the box
Not gunna lie I'm excited to stop seeing "Only @ Best Buy" for steelbooks lol
Will miss the days of going to the store and walking out with a stack of movies I just found while browsing but that's already been long gone.

True that. Look we got Tod Browning’s Freaks and The Unknown lookin crisp!
Naw I can't accept a company calling themselves boutique if they're gonna use those terrible looking generic Blu-ray covers. I ain't paying extra for something that looks exactly the same as something that's like a quarter of the price. Either put in the effort to make actual unique and good casing, or don't bother.
Best Buy physical media always costed more than other stores

Could've just said prettier circuit city
