Rey being a plap killed this movie for me tbh that was my fav twist from TLJ i was so ready for this franchise to move past basic good vs evil plots and skywalkers and palpatines.
Summary of decade is basic good and evil especially Disney content
It’s crazy that an idea on paper didn’t sound nearly as bad as the reveal in the movie too. What an anticlimactic, unnecessary thing to do
I would've forgiven a bunch of flaws in this movie if jj at least stuck to that one. Imagine rey shooting lightning out of her hands despite not being palp and actually killed chewie would've been such a crazy and interesting twist

JJ is a hack
people really criticizing this movie for making all of Rian’s plot points irrelevant, as if he didn’t just do the same thing to the movie before it
they’re both really bad directions & y’all jumping through hoops to justify one over the other
What?
What major plot point did Rian retcon from TFA > TLJ
Y’all love saying this without providing examples
I really want to know why the final cut wound up so short. It’s known by now that if people really want to see a movie they’ll go see it even if it’s 3+ hours. Being this is SW it’s not like people wouldn’t have come through if it was long
I think the original runtime was like 2hr 35min too and they cut it
So stupid, even 2 hours 35 min is very short for something this packed. who the hell is making these decisions?
TFA: gives slight mystery of reys parents but never threw out the possibility that she's just a nobody
TLJ: Kylo forces rey to say out loud that her parents were nobodies and they sold her for drinking money.
TROS: Kylo says i didn't lie even though he completely did as he continue to explain how rey's dad or mom is the child of one of the biggest terrorist in the galaxy and they left her in a giant desert planet where she is forced to scavenge her whole life to protect her
it was obvious from the first time you see him in TFA that he’s not made for the big bad role. that’s like the entire point of his character bruh, he was trying to be something he wasn’t because of other people. seems like a lot of these movies went right over y’alls heads
I think that’s why seeing him really become this irredeemable villain works even more.
He clearly chose this path
He’s a wannabe, he’s not built to fit that big bad role and he’s constantly struggling with the light
And that’s what makes it even more distinct and interesting to me.
Instead we get a boring ass redemption

prequels did amazing at blurring the lines of whats good and evil

It was definitely a start but george did not show that off well at all. In Rots it seemed like only anakin believed the jedi are wrong but we know he's supposed to think that cuz he turns into vader. one reason that i like TLJ is cuz luke who admired the jedi in OT actually acknowledged the jedi were d*** heads yoda admits the jedi were wrong to. Hell the first one luke meets lies and trys to get him to kill his father that he idolized for years
.
I wish the best for all the actors they all did insanely well even when the script was weak throughout the films.

where did I say retcon?
but did you even watch the movies
self explanatory

So you don’t have examples. Lmao
I think the lack of a plan really didn’t matter. I’m tired of this excuse in order to defend JJ and co.
If they had an ounce of creativity they could create a satisfying conclusion to the already dense story.
Instead they made a sequel to a movie that doesn’t exist
I disagree but I think the entire sequel trilogy was a lot of missed potential and none of these movies are really that great. I definitely wanted to love these movies as a huge star wars fan and I think a better ep 9 could have tied into 8 and 7 better and even make them better / make sense but that didn't happen.
JJ is definitely lazy and is a much better director than writer but the failure to have a clear plan made me think this all is a waste.
Someone at Disney really needed to take charge and make sure that all these movies had a coherent / constant tone. 7, 8 and 9 feel jarringly different and these movies were obviously rushed.
I know the OT didn't have some kind of rough plan at the start but you can still feel the effects of someones singular vision.
I still like the 3 sequel movies but so much wasted potential.. feel like the trilogy as a whole is 7.5/10.
George Lucas showed them treatments for 7, 8, 9 & Disney ignored them (which is fine), only to freestyle every movie

So you just gonna ignore the last post

Personally the first two movies are like a 9/10 for my and this is a 5/10. The lack of guts and creativity in this finale just blows my mind
We really underestimated how much of the reason why TFA was good was cause of Kasdan.
Full glory JJ is a scary sight

Let’s not act like Lucas’s ideas for the ST weren’t complete trash
