Imma have to check this out looks dope..prolly wait till streaming since it only takes like 2 weeks after the movie comes out nowadays lol
Unhinged and relentless, absolutely phenomenal film and just might be Robert Eggers’ best, coming from someone who considers The Lighthouse to be top 3 in 2019
The cinematography was unbelievable, I was honestly stunned at some of the shots in this film
This is easily Alexander Skarsgaard’s finest role, maybe even career defining
Anya and Nicole were also quite good, Anya better than Nicole personally
As an aside I found it hilarious to see Nicole as Alexander’s mother after seeing them as a married couple in Big Little Lies
Both of them have tremendous chemistry especially in one particular scene that everyone will know what I’m talking about when they see it
Minor spoilers here
kinda sad that Ethan, Willem & Bjork were essentially cameos but all 3 gave unbelievable performances with the little time they had
The story was absolutely tremendous, I think it was a worthy take on a kinda oversaturated sub genre nowadays (revenge action films) - the Viking aesthetic really helped set it apart from its contemporaries
I think this should be the film that sets Robert Eggers’ apart from the “A24 director” stain that he has been given, I personally feel like he’s been slightly written off because of this but there’s no denying Eggers’ is a very special director and I’m truly excited for whatever the hell he does next and I know damn well I’ll be there day 1
Finally, please watch this film in a damn theatre man. I’m not usually one of those people who think every single film must be seen on the big screen and no where else, but this film really only belongs on the big screen.

Hold up hold up, hang on a sec... Being an A24 director is used as a disparaging term?

Just in my opinion there has been a stigma around directors like Eggers and Aster that their films aren’t really that deep and that they’re just for A24 stans

did willem have a double role or was that supposed to be the same character ?

imo the same character, I think his mystic abilities were supposed to be a secret to everybody else to the King and maybe his brother (because he kills him later although it could be because of the jest he made towards the Queen that offended him)

Watch Generation Kill if you haven't (and sadly so many haven't). He's exceptional in that
