You not wrong, but idk how many folks know about Amleth lol

Yeah I was unaware of it until I heard of this film. And even after some research into the myth it seems the film more closely follows the plot of Hamlet than the actual legend

I'd honestly be down for just Hamlet but in different cultures. I'm trying to see a Native American or Japanese version

    Facts, Egyptian Hamlet let's go

Really enjoyed it. I dont believe I would put it over The Witch or Lighthouse, but definitely a dope ass film

I do wish Eggers went more weird but I completely understand why its not as weird as his first 2 films. I'd imagine the studio had him cut a lot of the weirder, surreal scenes from the final cut

I hope his next film has more of the surreal indie vibe that he is best at though

The score for this movie is truly something special.

Idk what niggas be wanting man, this s*** was a Scandinavian myth brought to life. There were frames and shots in here that felt like a painting. Those valkyrie scenes? The final fight between Amleth and Fjolnir by the volcano???

it never felt like a single line of dialogue was wasted here man. Skarsgard was f***in beastly here and the way he switched between speaking in that low, almost demonic growl and being able to switch into that monstrous roar at the drop of a dime was f***in insane, I was fully immersed every time he spoke. This nigga commanded the screen.

Not to mention his amazing chemistry with Anya Taylor Joy. She was the perfect contrast with her cerebral and mystic persona complimenting his wolflike and feral demeanor.

And then you got Bjork who's role was haunting as f*** and left an impression even if it was essentially a glorified cameo.

I went in not knowing what to expect and i loved it, I just judged this on it's own merit. Between this and the weird nitpicks I've seen directed at Everything Everywhere All At Once, I think folks aren't letting the art sit with them or something man.

Because Eggers really did his homework here.

This. Film is pretty much flawless. I dont get the criticism either but its just subjective i guess

Like if this is Eggers "selling out" then I need more of this cuz this is still more interesting than most blockbusters that get released

Oh hell nah dont tell me people are calling this selling out
Maybe if a random mid ass director with no distinctive style had this script but Eggers still sauced this all over with his crazy ass mind and had me and my gf looking at eachother like every 2 minutes cause its f***ing wild lmao

I really do appreciate these directors who would usually make a self contained “indie” movie are getting a chance to make their version of a epic blockbuster type of movie. Like Chloe zhao with the eternals, the Daniels with everything everywhere, David lowery with the green knight, and now robert Eggers with the Northman. Then to see people actually going to see these movies at the theater not knowing what to expect, but still enjoying the movie is a great response. I hope this becomes more of a trend for other directors m.

It’s a great time to be a creator rn with all these studios throwing around the bag as they compete in the streaming wars

It’s almost dry by push’s t. Makes sense since Daytona was more shorter and self contained with production similar to the lighthouse

It’s movies like this & Green Knight that have me wondering how that Yasuke movie with Chadwick would’ve turned out.

He didn’t play when it came to his biopics so imagine if it was of the same caliber as these two
