I might have to bite the bullet and go see this damn Dr Strange movie lol. I’m curious. I just want to be part of the conversation.
I thought it was trash
Felt like they used so much less CGI than the usual mcu flick
Felt like Spy Kids 3D to me lol. The camera and editing did a lot of work though
This movie is undeniably amazing.
It doesn't force any feelings onto you, it literally feels like raw footage of a story being told 1000 years ago or some s***. It's just a revenge story that doesn't force you to connect to any characters, Eggers LITERALLY made it feel like the movie was going on in another world. That's why I don't feel any of the white supremacist s*** I was hearing about.
I found it quite humorous too
in an ironic way. White people labeled first natives as savages, but these white people quite literally thought they were wolves and s*** lmaoo.
Eggers did a fantastic job.
felt the exact same but i figure it's cus i avoided reading anything about this i was just high on the fumes of the lighthouse & the casting
it's like really impressive execution but this type of straight forward revenge blockbuster action movie does nothing for me unfortunately i prob woulda enjoyed it way more if i were just expecting a popcorn flick
Honestly classifying it as a blockbuster like it's meant to appease to a mainstream audience, or a popcorn flick kind of downplays what the movie actually strived for.
Movies like Braveheart and Gladiator are blockbuster mainstream movies that are told through a MODERN lens. That's where The Northman separates itself completely. It's as stripped down and raw you can ask for, something mainstream audiences don't really like.

i hear you i think that's a good point but im not sure that i'd agree
i mean, do you think game of thrones or lord of the rings are told through the same modern scope or do you feel immersed in the world?
to me those things did that with a much more interesting, complex story, themes, characters & they're two of the most popular pieces of popular culture in history

not at all, game of thrones and lord of the rings are both novels about an original story that was created in modern times, so it’s going to have that modern aspect regardless. the story for the northman is one that has been told for over a thousand years, i think that’s where the difference is important

The story is just hamlet tho & there’s like an infinite amount of hamlet stories. Like most movies are Shakespeare in one way or another

Wait until you find out what inspired Hamlet

it’s not hamlet, it’s the tale of amleth which is what hamlet is based on (i think)
idk i just think the amount of historical accuracy, it’s nothing like we have seen so far for a basic revenge story.
there’s a ton of themes and imagery that was used that make this basic revenge story nothing like others
Wait until you find out what inspired Hamlet
Oh lol wellp
Idk that’s cool just doesn’t influence the way I experienced the movie without knowing the inspiration to hamlet then I guess 🤷♀️Suppose that’s a personal thing

Word I don’t wanna come off as too negative I thought the movie executed on what it was aiming to do at a really impressive level . Like I said it was my own expectations coming into the movie that made it a lil jarring for me, if I’d known the historical timeline of that story going in instead of avoiding plot spoilers maybe it woulda hit different for me

na i get you and to be honest even though i’m saying how much i love it i don’t think its perfect, it felt like it was missing something for me that stopped it from being flawless
Next Robert Eggers flick needs to be called “The ____”. He’s already 3 for 3 with the naming convention. My OCD requires he continues lol.

The Nosferatu
HD Rip is out
Cant wait to rewatch. Movie been living rent free in me head since ive seen it
@FlyHiii u need to peep this breh
Ive been planning to for weeks but it hasnt worked out yet
Idk what niggas be wanting man, this s*** was a Scandinavian myth brought to life. There were frames and shots in here that felt like a painting. Those valkyrie scenes? The final fight between Amleth and Fjolnir by the volcano???
it never felt like a single line of dialogue was wasted here man. Skarsgard was f***in beastly here and the way he switched between speaking in that low, almost demonic growl and being able to switch into that monstrous roar at the drop of a dime was f***in insane, I was fully immersed every time he spoke. This nigga commanded the screen.
Not to mention his amazing chemistry with Anya Taylor Joy. She was the perfect contrast with her cerebral and mystic persona complimenting his wolflike and feral demeanor.
And then you got Bjork who's role was haunting as f*** and left an impression even if it was essentially a glorified cameo.
I went in not knowing what to expect and i loved it, I just judged this on it's own merit. Between this and the weird nitpicks I've seen directed at Everything Everywhere All At Once, I think folks aren't letting the art sit with them or something man.
Because Eggers really did his homework here.
Bringing this back
