I'm in the minority but I actually might like Skeleton Key more than Marciology...I like that Marciology has features bc I think Roc needs it sometimes to break up his music feeling a bit repetitive but I actually might like the production more on here maybe I just need to give Marciology another deep dive and some of Roc's bars on this are insane too

I do think generally speaking that Alc can do better though...there was better production on Gangrene and some of his other joints this year for sure

It's too early to call for me. I'm not gonna rush to say this is better or worse than anything because my feelings about it will likely change with repeated listens. I will say that one thing I personally feel this album has over Marciology is the fact that there aren't any features. The only MC I was hoping to hear from other than Roc on this was Ka, but I knew that was unlikely. I wasn't impressed with the features on Marciology for the most part. I'll admit Crimeapple won me over with his verse. I never paid him much attention, but he went hard on there. The Jay Worthy verse particularly ruined an otherwise great song for me with On The Run. I don't understand the appeal of Worthy at all, and that verse was even below his standards to my ears. How can you follow up an elite MC like Roc with that??? Man, I really don't understand how people listen to that guy. MC Eiht would have been a perfect guest on that track though!

i never said no other producer can be seen on his level and he isn’t even my fav producer. just that alc isn’t on that pantheon. if there’s guys like q-tip, madlib, pete rock, dj paul and juicy j etc i’m having alc below them.

Al doesn’t do many beat tapes, It’s mainly collabs. Q Tip also doesn’t have any beat tapes so would it be fair to ask “Does Q Tip even have a beat tape as good as Vol 3 and 4?”

I think a pretty good case can be made about Al on why he is in that pantheon

I hate saying s*** like this cause it feels like I’m disrespecting Madlib and other legends

But acting like no other producers could possibly come close to them is super disrespectful to all the great producers in the game

I understand some of these guys paved the way and that’s why they deserve the status. But if we going beat for beat, There’s a lot of great producers that are just as good or better

Alchemist has made so many incredible beats at this point I understand why people would be unconsciously be overwhelmed and forget about his ever amassing backcatalog leading to comparisons to literally any other artist
