Even a 7 month period of marketing would be considered short for video games. GTA 5 second trailer dropped in Nov 2012. Don't know if the release date was already announced as Sept 2013 then or was still Q2 2013, but that's about 6-10 months before the intended release date

I think if there's still silence in May, this game probably not dropping this year. But I've also been a 2026 believer since the release date was rumoured to be Fall 2025, so I'm biased

You can't compare 2012 with 2025. The society is different today and Rockstar changed too

GTA VI doesn't need years of marketing and I would say even 3 months of marketing would be enough but I think they will start in May/June.

I feel like marketing campaigns are even longer now for games than back then with a game being announced, silence for years, then multiple trailers spread out before the game releases

Even in 2013 Rockstar were THE guys in gaming and they didn't need much marketing. They also dropped RDR2's second trailer in Sept 2017 when the game was expected to release in the first half of 2018

They might actually be adopting the short marketing campaign this time. I just read that basically half of RDR2's total budget was marketing and like you said Rockstar don't need it. Everyone is looking forward to this game, so they can save hella money by doing the bare minimum

I think they have to give at least something by May/June too if it's still coming this year

I mean there's probably no game that big and huge like the GTA franchise and in my opinion long compaigns for games (and other stuff like music) doesn't really work anymore like it used to be 10 years ago because people changed and they probably know that

Short marketing campaigns are hitting way harder nowadays when you do it right and I'm pretty sure they're already planning like crazy for this to make a big bang

Honestly I see hit tweets and discussions about GTA VI every single day on Twitter and reddit anyways and I'm here also sure they know that too, it's already free promo kinda when you think about that

I'm still hopeful for this year because they're still pretty confident with 2025 but we will see
