The extent of rockys influence only goes so far as to make people stop wearing been trill and hba WHILE it was on its way out only to backpeddle and say sorry later. Rocky is honestly a clown but very nice to look at

Btw speaking as a zoomer kid it definitely isnt rocky or nelly

Im pretty sure it’s scott disick

Remember late 2016 early 2017 he’d have em on and I specifically remember thinking thts an odd shoe..bcus even as recent as then it wasn’t a streetwear shoe, was still a thing my hood friends were into.

Maybe another bigger culture catupulted it more in, maybe when white ig models started wearing em

    man said scott disick

  • Apr 23, 2020

This is old, Rocky said this in what 2015 and before that as well.

AF1 been a classic stable, that's knowledge. However, Rocky did influence people to wear mids out here in Europe with no knowledge of the history behind the shoe but that's just natural, it's nothing new.

  • Remember when Chance the Rapper said he was the reason people wore Supreme?

  • Apr 23, 2020

    he’s right

    Dumbass niggas

U literally couldn’t follow any fashion pages in 2017 without seeing scott in these in explore page

Did i say he made em popular for niggas?

But he definitely is my theory for why suburban white people started wearing em bcus again even as of then I remember thinking it was weird this white dude was always wearing those so for sure they werent as ubiquitous w general culture as they are now

you are out of ur f***ing mind LMAO u gotta be 14

  • Apr 23, 2020

idk if it could really be traced to one rapper in recent years, but def the style that keef n em brought to the forefront in '13 is what set the standard for how dopeboys dress n they run style in the grand scheme of things

Who popularized them for casual whites then?

Not black people or people in the city, theyve been popular there for decades but i mean for middle class whites who popularized them inyo

We’re talking about mass culture itt

That was my whole point so yes unfortunately middle class kids but white kids in particular are mass culture

And dude stop f***ing lying trying to avoid my point holy s*** white kids were not wearing AF1s in f***ing 2015 in any significant numbers wtf

earliest mid 2017 to late 2017 is when they got caught on in the suburbs

Ive literally seen this s*** w my own eyes.

Same with the basic b**** old skools (those are what caught on in late 2015)

There’s a solid chance im wrong not denying that

But it definitely isnt rocky bcus he was into them wayy too early (2011-2013) and the current trend of every white kid w beat af1s started in 2017. Unless yall are trying to say somehow 16-17 yr olds 2/3 years ago were somehow retroactively influenced by wht asap rocky did almost 7-10 years ago?

Which doesnt make sense w how trends work. Lets use rocky as an example , the striped guess shirts tht defined his 2015 style caught on in 2015/16. Trends he’s started mirror what he’s currently doing. It makes no sense to say somehow a trend that started 2017 earliest comes from what he was doing in 2013-2011

Using that logic it definitely rules out nelly, most people ny age cant name a Single nelly song to save their life, me included.

Maybe scott disick is a lil out there but he’s the only fairly popular figure i can think of that was known (i.e the complex sneaker shopping vid where they acknowledge hes always wearing them) for wearing them in a time that predates when they caught on in the suburbs by a half a year to a year

The truth is that the rise of the AF1 was inevitable. Consumers realized white shoes were cool when Adidas was pushed heavy in the middle of the decade. A couple years later, people get tired of their Adidas, and think 'what other basic white shoe can I buy'.

This is a solid ass theory

We’re all assuming this trend wasn’t a natural occurring one

I mean 2015/16 middle class kids were wearing white stans and s*** so it only makes sense that would be the natural trajectory
