Is it just me, or did af1s fall out of style when roshes/free runs/ultraboosts first got popular? Gen z lightweight brought them back

being MORE popularized/pushed is not equal to falling off.

the af1 has been among nikes best selling models since they released in 1982 so how they have ever fallen off and how could any one person be the sole reason theyre popping since then lol

By that logic i could say the superstar is among adidas top selling shoes and has been since the 80s, even though shell toes are clearly less prevalent today. I'm just saying it seems like (purely anecdotally) I saw less people wearing bigger model shoes around the time that ultraboosts, flyknits and yeezy 350s started to take off purely from a streetwear perspective, I can't speak on "high fashion".

i'd equate falling off to the roshe run, that's a sneaker that fell off. af1 or superstar are not in that category

Btw speaking as a zoomer kid it definitely isnt rocky or nelly

Im pretty sure it’s scott disick

Remember late 2016 early 2017 he’d have em on and I specifically remember thinking thts an odd shoe..bcus even as recent as then it wasn’t a streetwear shoe, was still a thing my hood friends were into.

Maybe another bigger culture catupulted it more in, maybe when white ig models started wearing em

did this nigga just say scott disick made af1s popular?
    in 2016?!

man af1s were hot before that nigga was on tv. it definitely wasn't nobody on reality tv or a white b****

rap/hip hop culture of the 90s through early 2000s made air force 1s popping, the end.

    For the last time

Af1s been popular in the city/among black people for decades. No one denies that

But u hv to have no idea of culture to not see that in the past 3 years they reached a crazy high peak in mass culture tht theyve never ever been at before

I live in a canadian suburb and literally when i say literally every f***ing person my age owns a pair. Are you dumbasses really finna say US city culture from the 90s is the reason why????

Clearly there is another vantage point thats happened fairly recently that were missing that’s taken an
Already popular shoe to an even higher peak point in mass culture

Im black but saying dumb s*** like “black people” or “hip hop culture” just doesnt make sense. The last popular rapper to make a thing of wearing AF1s was rocky in early 2010s. And again white middle class started buying Af1s in late 2010s so it dnst make sense.

where in canada do u live m8. I'm from winnipeg and i can tell u people round me never stopped wearin them

Im tryna differentiate between the two

They’ve always been popular l, enough where 4 or 5 kids in my classes since elementary had them on consistently but now it’s something like half the class has them on/and another 80-90% in general own a pair

So define wht u mean “wearing em” cus im skeptical, especially in f***ing Winnipeg.

I partly grew up in suburbs of atl and chicago area (in majority black schools and neighborhoods) and even w black people as recent as 10 ish yrs ago there’s been a jump in popularity when compared to how much my american black family and friends wear them now. This jump is like times 100 out here in c***land where literally everyone has them on. I didnt grow up here so i cnt tell u exactly how s*** was 10 yrs ago but i grew up in mixed/black cities so i can speak on tht. And even then even tho I was a city kid id still see what the suburbs kids 30 minutes away were wearing and it definitely wasn’t the way they wear AF1s now

Not saying they were unknown until 2016. But they’re basically synonymous with feet wear now. Kinda with old skools in mid 2010s

The truth is that the rise of the AF1 was inevitable. Consumers realized white shoes were cool when Adidas was pushed heavy in the middle of the decade. A couple years later, people get tired of their Adidas, and think 'what other basic white shoe can I buy'.
