Can someone please explain this? What is an executive producer’s exact role?

Do they choose the sequence of the track listing, what sounds hot/what doesn’t?

Can some executive producers be more “hands on” than others? For example, Kanye on WLR vs Dr Dre on GKMC. Please enlighten me fam

probably just some guy who hangs around and gives input on stuff. i guess how much input is given and how much is actually taken on is up to the people themselves.

They have varying sets of responsibilities, some exec producers will be way more involved than others

But in general someone who oversees and is involved in the creation of the album, provides creative input

Sometimes it’s not even real. Ain’t someone give exec prod credits to his dog at some point? Valee maybe?

usually it means the person in charge of finances and business partnerships, booking studio sessions, negociating with labels, radios, etc.

and the record producer oversees production and decides who to hire for the music, what direction to go to for aesthetics, sounds, cover, etc (so kanye was more the record producer of WLR than the exec)

and their level of being hands on will be decided by the artist's actual imput. Kendrick probably handled most of the artistic direction himself since he had the whole thing in mind and dre was in the background being more of a mentor than a musical director

however dre probably had way more imput on eminem first albums cause he was more interested in rapping than constructing a real album

watch documentaries on jimmy iovine or quincy jones on netflix if you want to see how they work

I agree. This album is so good it makes me think Kanye added some of his magic to it lowkey. I don’t doubt Carti’s genius, I just think Kanye did a few things to make it even more special

I am guessing it is more of a tag for a famous person acting as adviser.

I would assume creative input. Album sequencing. Few production. Discussion with carti and his label throughout the process of which songs and ideas he think are good or bad

Executive producers can help man. Only using this thread to reference Kanye’s EP albums. Oddly these are all amazing albums, so it can’t be a coincidence

Didn't Carti change the album last minute. So whatever Kanye did wasn't the album we got
