Buying a luxury item like a Rolex is a terrible idea because no matter what it's going to deplete in the long run, maybe if it's a limited edition and never worn, touched, etc it could be worth something in the future. However, comparing it to even something like land, a house, even a car paid in full, it doesn't come close because the market for a luxury good is not always going to be there.
