This is gonna sound incredibly naive I’m sure but I never thought that I’d witness such a rapid deterioration of civil rights in the US during my lifetime.

I’m not gonna lie, as a 20yo I’ve never in my life been afraid of white people or Nazis or anything like that, but the recent uptick in blatantly anti-black rhetoric online as well as the GOP’s secessionist turn and obvious agenda to bring back something resembling Jim Crow laws has me really concerned right now.

It didn’t take long to undo ~30 years of gradual LGBTQ acceptance, so i’m not sure why it’s so hard for me to wrap my head around the idea that we’ll be back in the 50s as far as racial politics too. I didn’t really prepare for something like this honestly. Thought about making a thread but I’m posting this here cause I live in FL and apparently this place is just a full blown fascist experiment now

There’s nothing stopping all the red states from turning into their own countries. Focusing solely on Florida is foolish; Texas, Tennessee and Virginia are going crazy too.

If (for sake of the argument) solidly red states tried to 'secede' from the union, they would have to rely ON those powerhouse states like Florida and Texas (because muh economy). Florida and Texas would never do it because the government in those states are 'pull up your bootstraps' tier, they aren't going to lend money out like fed already does.

also Virginia is a blue state, and Tennessee is poor and impoverished with a largely aged population. They rely largely on the federal government.
