Then without warning she pivoted to going for Latin hits with a different market. It was just weird and if your introduction to her was Motomami or it’s rollout you probably won’t grasp it
without warning?? are we just pretending Con Altura, Yo x Tu Tu x Mi, Linda and her features on La Noche de Anoche, KLK, and Relación dont exist??
before Motomami it was already clear thats the direction she was heading in. even if she wasnt, according to you since shes Spaniard and started in New Flamenco, she should just stick to that genre??

el mal querer had plenty of commercial appeal though. malamente was a big hit. pienso en tu mira? bagdad anyone? it might not have broken through in the states commercially in a big way but it was a big album in a lot of other places, made her a star in her home country after all. also her biggest hit is still con altura although that's a j balvin song it was in 2019
Oh yea definitely I mean she’s still a pop artist at her core
But motomami is the album that a global superstar puts out
It’s just levels in terms of the commercial appeal and even tho I prefer the highs of el mal querer I think motomami as a project is very comparable quality wise if not better

she hasn't put out anything interesting for a while since motomami aint gon hold you. I thought she was just going to do the mainstream bid and then be more like Frank Ocean go back to making interesting s*** and being at least a little elusive but that hasn't happened so far. tuya was kind of ass apart from the last minute. It would be different if she occasionally dropped a really interesting highly artistic song alongside some of the chart bait she's been dropping, like the singles era between EMQ and Motomami that brought us classics like Juro Que and A Pale. i mean motomami definitely had songs like this so she hasn't lost that. this is coming from a longtime fan since Los Angeles era . Im also afro latino and speak Spanish fluently not that that really matters i guess
Yea I’m hoping it’s just doing more commercial singles so she can push the album cuts further

on one hand id disagree hard but on another i understand why you say this especially lately. these new singles have all been not it and her biggest hits are boring ass reggaeton songs that don’t really maintain her personality and what makes her truly special aside from great vocals and occasionally cool lyrics. she’s special because of the songs that aren’t hits though, the album cuts. karol G ain’t doing s*** that’s touching como un G or maldición or si tu supieras compañero to use random great examples from each of her albums or a pale & juro que pre motomami singles

i grew up on a lot of music and reggaeton is some of that and honestly i find 99% of reggaeton boring and grating as f***, literally my least favorite genre of popular music outside of the OG dominican classics or like… experimental electronic reggaeton like when arca dabbles in it. rosalia doing reggaeton was absolutely the last thing i hoped she would do even though i get it and it’s probably single-handedly the thing that brought her to the most success. the reggaeton songs were consistently the worst on motomami, i love songs like diablo and saoko but they are great in spite of their reggaeton drums not because of them lol

Yea definitely possible but she’s also now one of the biggest artists in the world so I think maybe expectations of wait time have changed

Motomami is fine but el mal querer is just a different level of artistry and she had to take it down a peg for mainstream success
Lol no sorry. Motomami far better than her previous work in term of creativity, blending genres and styles. Its far more adventurous. Her previous work, while excellent, actually was more generic and fit neatly into other established styles.
