First Man was meh, but Whiplash and La La Land are two of the best of the decade. Dude exploded fast.

I just finally saw Whiplash and it was great but not classic imo

I’m the opposite. I thought la la land was solid but first man was a huge step up for chazelle and solidified him. Seeing it in imax was probably my fav theater experience last year.

The exception that proves the rule...?

You don’t have to show off your knowledge lol there’s barely any influential or popular musical in France

First Man had one of the best scores of the decade & that moon landing scene is drop dead gorgeous. When they switched to the first person moon shot in IMAX, my jaw dropped. It’s a very underrated character study that got overshadowed by the dumb flag controversy.

Its hardly a flex, he’s famous as f*** and was big on musicals. Meant as banter, nothing more. Not like I’m going deep on Montmatre dancehalls

Yeah but the whole movie is the thematic struggle of whether being corny, old-fashioned, and traditional can still be something that is enjoyed and beloved in today's world. Like the movie is constantly struggling between a romantic musical reminiscent of the 1960's and being a modern day drama about the industry.

Kinda bugs me when people criticize the music in it.

This early draft of the script from 2015 is interesting. Nice to see how different they ended up writing Julia’s character as well as the ending

Any final version scripts out there?
