I was re listening to Illadelph Halflife literally a WEEK AGO, and was reminded how perfect this specific record is. I told my cousin how bad this made me miss home (I moved from Philly to ATL this past March).

for many millennial/early Gen Z black Philadelphians, neo soul was the soundtrack to our childhood - early adolescence, the likes of D’Angelo, Bilal, Musiq, Erykah, Jill, Maxwell, Lauryn, Vivan Green, etc often sounded like a Spring or Fall afternoon when things just felt right. neo soul was our sound, we resonated with and breathed it day in/day out.
thank you D’Angelo for leading the charge, your rhythms and sonics will forever be cherished.
One of the greatest albums of all time fr. I listen to this one all the time but I really get in my Black Messiah bag during the holidays and it’s def gonna hit different this year.
I'm still processing this, his music meant a lot to me
I posted a remaster of Africa (Acoustic) I did back in 2016
Alot of times it gets more spins from me than his other albums
same, and I do get why the other two are so loved over it because they're incredible, but bm is so special and personal to me. genuinely changed my life as a listener when it dropped. so many memories watching sunrises to another life
I was gonna be on a t-break until next spring/summer, but I may have to smoke a blunt & bump his full discog tonight

My bad y’all I’m at work rn I’ll update OP later
so much to add and embeds lowkey being ass rn
We wouldn’t have TPAB, Lemonade, A Seat A The Table without Black Messiah. It deserves much more respect than it gets in comparison to Voodoo and Brown Sugar. D’s has always pushed the envelope and inspired those who came after him.

Sugah daddy still makes me laugh in awe. Never heard a song like that before or since.
Its so freaky and funny af. The instrumentation is so fresh yet vintage at the same time. The sparse mix n those kicks on that s*** man. F***
