Yeah, this is a dope ass EP. I gotta give it to Drake on this one. He really impressed me with this. Kudos to the producers on this too, they gave Drake some beautiful instrumentals to rap over.

Wishful thinking but if he could give us just one album with these type of records (of course a few songs for the ladies), that would be dope. I'm good with just this though, it already has infinite replay value to me.

So it’s clear after SH3 the issue is that he just has completely lost his ear for melodies.

Yes his lyricism is precise and refined as ever, however there is practically 0 songs from this tracklist of 29 that stand out as a highlight hit of his career.

And yeah SH3 was supposed to be more If You’re vibes, however from those 6 songs I can’t even remember a chorus or melody. Just specific lines.

This was obvious af tbh the moment he put out Slime You Out preceding the album like it was some sort of hit and it was a whole ass 6 minute poetry slam with no melodies.

Yeah the lyricism is nice but Drake is known for the melodies and the hits and he has to realize dropping a 30 song album that is just borderline grand slam stand up night poetry with zero memorable beats, melodies, rhythms, etc was a huge ass mess

“I made an album to go with the book” starts to make a whole lot of sense when you think about it this way though

He doesn’t need to nor does he care about making hits anymore. Give it up and enjoy great music. This way better than getting another one dance/hotline bling. You guys gotta stop expecting another views or scorpion lol.

None of this is better than a Nice for What or 0 to 100.

Drake is supposed to mix lyricism WITH good melody. It’s not supposed to be 1 or the other. That’s what set him apart and put him at the forefront of the game.

Doing 30 songs straight that sound like random J. Cole album tracks is a dud. Also, the lyrical content itself gets pretty ran into the ground (80% of lines being about “trifling ass women” he’s annoyed with or peers who envy him). We aren’t really even getting any new content lyrically even if the lines are getting more refined.

The only reason people are even making the IYRTITL connection is because he mentioned in the EP trailer that this is the first time since that album that the music has been coming to him as effortlessly. Goes to show you no one's even paying attention to the length of a trailer.

Also, guys like Joe Budden put a battery in his back so he met them on their playing field. Why would you expect melodies from SH3, it's for the rappity rap.

You shouldn't be allowed to listen to new drake if you haven't gotten thoroughly caught up on the lore, bro.

Ok, how does this negate anything that was said.

Album is 30 songs of poetry standup with no memorable melodies. He fumbled.

I can agree with you in that the lack of Melodies or memorable ones at least are lacking on the whole deluxe FATD. It’s fairly obvious he doesn’t care so much as he seems to half ass portions of songs where a good hook could be inserted.

However, there are still “some” Melody on FATD I really enjoy, (all the parties harmonizing, Virginia Beach hook, tried our best, and polar opposites is peak harmonizing imo

I think he’s still capable of hit making hooks and melody but he just doesn’t try as much. It’s obviously still in his bag and I expect some more in the future.
