None of this is better than a Nice for What or 0 to 100.

Drake is supposed to mix lyricism WITH good melody. It’s not supposed to be 1 or the other. That’s what set him apart and put him at the forefront of the game.

Doing 30 songs straight that sound like random J. Cole album tracks is a dud. Also, the lyrical content itself gets pretty ran into the ground (80% of lines being about “trifling ass women” he’s annoyed with or peers who envy him). We aren’t really even getting any new content lyrically even if the lines are getting more refined.

    No melody???

So it’s clear after SH3 the issue is that he just has completely lost his ear for melodies.

Yes his lyricism is precise and refined as ever, however there is practically 0 songs from this tracklist of 29 that stand out as a highlight hit of his career.

And yeah SH3 was supposed to be more If You’re vibes, however from those 6 songs I can’t even remember a chorus or melody. Just specific lines.

This was obvious af tbh the moment he put out Slime You Out preceding the album like it was some sort of hit and it was a whole ass 6 minute poetry slam with no melodies.

Yeah the lyricism is nice but Drake is known for the melodies and the hits and he has to realize dropping a 30 song album that is just borderline grand slam stand up night poetry with zero memorable beats, melodies, rhythms, etc was a huge ass mess

Yeah u just described why I don't fw FATD, the melodies on there are not it.

This is a head-scratching critique tbh, especially coming from you. Nobody enters into the Scary Hours EPs or the timestamp songs looking for melodies. They go into them looking for hard-hitting rap songs with a focus on lyricism. It's especially clear what Drake set out to do with SH3 and he more than delivered on that front.

Thinking Drake put out Slime You Out believing it'd work as a legitimate hit record is lazy thinking on your part. That song was never even pushed as single on radio. It's clear he dropped the song because he knew he'd be delaying the album by 2 more weeks and he wanted fans to have an offering from the album. That was the same logic behind him releasing 8AM in Charlotte with the music video before the album dropped. Again, a non-single meant to serve as an offering to fans preceding the full album release.

IDGAF, FPS and RBD are all bangers on different fronts. I get that you might be upset that no song from the album has stuck as a chart hit but that has less to do with Drake or the songs he made and more to do with how the charts work right now: any song that isn't getting substantial pop radio airplay isn't spending extended time in the top 10. That's the simple fact and something I'm sure you understand. I also know you understand that Drake has historically gotten very little to zero airplay on pop radio across his entire career. The other part of it is you acting like Drake should still be able to score hits like usual 15 years in. Look at all Taylor Swift has to do to get her songs to stick as hits lol. She's being embraced by pop radio now and that's like 70% why her songs are serving longevity in the top 10, not necessarily because they're streaming behemoths.

It is what it is. Drake has still scored more hits this decade than most artists and he has enough hits for 10 careers. It's okay if he doesn't score any more chart moving forward. For All the Dogs has several album cuts that will age well and that fans already love. That's always the cornerstone of the long-term support his albums enjoy anyways. SH3 served the part of his fanbase that cares for hard-hitting rap songs and it'll all play well into how the entire For Al the Dogs album ages with people. That's a W imo.

I really don't understand that critique at all lmao. For All the Dogs was clearly originally going to be an R&B album and it probably has the largest collection of solid R&B album cuts on any Drake project. Bahamas Promises, Drew a Picasso, Tried Our Best, Polar Opposites are all-timers. All the Parties and Away from Home are also great album cuts.

The album does lack bangers and clear-cut candidates for legitimate hit records but even when Drake stacks his albums with those on recent projects, they don't do any damage because of how the charts are set up now.

Drake has never needed hits to carry his albums on the charts so he'll be fine regardless. And as for hits, he could always score more of those next year on some features. It's all good lol.

No this album has ZERO memorable melodies, and Scary Hours 3 being 6 songs with absolutely zero melodies once again is horrifying. Melodies should come natural to him even when that isn’t necessarily the aim - the other Scary Hours had songs with melodies and they combined don’t even have as many songs as SH3

And notice the 3 songs you can SLIGHTLY argue as having good melodies/hooks (and slightly is generous - none of them will be memorable amongst his career hits) are all collaborations.

This is the same story this decade with all his projects. It’s not a coincidence at this point with 4 projects straight EVERY single song that is a highlight melody is a collaboration where he’s relying on someone else to carry it.

This man’s ear for crafting a hit is gone
